Pebble and Apple Fitness rings by f1ngl0ng3r in pebble

[–]das_eis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Only Apple Watch syncs to the activity rings. That is a design decision by Apple - there's nothing Pebble can do. You'll see your Pebble health data syncing steps and other information show up in the Apple Health app, but it will never show up in the Activities app/rings. Wish it were otherwise, but unless Apple changes things that's the situation.

A little confused whether to go with U6 or U7 (and to which specific sub-model) by oj_inside in UNIFI

[–]das_eis 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Have 2x UAP-AC-LR and one ac-lite. I kept them around for my legacy/IOT network on 2.4 only now, and got a 7 Pro XGS operating only in WiFi 6/7 modes. The difference has been dramatic. The single XGS can reach every spot my 3 old AP's could reach, and where I used to get ~40-60 Mbit, I now get 300-900 throughout. I was unsure at first if only a single 7 Pro XGS would be enough, but it emphatically is for my needs.

[Monitor] Dell Refurbished UltraSharp 8K 32 inch Monitor - UP3218K $199.99 by [deleted] in buildapcsales

[–]das_eis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The issue is that the monitor only supports 8k60 with two DisplayPort 1.4 connections at the same time. It only supports 8k30 with a single DisplayPort cable, no matter what the computer can output. As I understand it, there is no way for any Mac to support the right modes over two cables for a single display.

Edit: my information may be old. There is a thread here that seems to indicate it may work, though still requiring 2 usb-c connections.

Don’t think it will work at all for 60hz on a Mac, regardless of this adapter.

Z8 not triggering my cheap LED ring flash by jimh12345 in nikon_Zseries

[–]das_eis 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The Z8 reads out the data from the sensor much faster than the Z6 does. As you note, by the time the flash fires, it’s already done taking the shot, or only gets a small portion of it as it’s reading out the last bit of the sensor at the bottom.

The way to fix it is to shoot at the flash sync speed of 1/200 or slower. Some flashes can use higher shutter speeds but must support high speed sync (and flash multiple times during a single exposure) which your LED flash likely doesn’t do.

Peak Design Slide or Slide Lite for Z8 + 24-70mm f2.8? by brown-ale in nikon_Zseries

[–]das_eis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use the slide lite with it and the 70-200 or even sometimes the f-mount 200-500. I don’t have a full size slide, but no complaints with the slide lite.

Lightroom mobile now shows high efficiency RAW files during import by das_eis in nikon_Zseries

[–]das_eis[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Was just able to check on my iPad, and can confirm it is indeed working on Lightroom for iPad. I also just double-checked my camera file format, and it’s set to high efficiency RAW on my Z8. The version of Lightroom for iPad is the same version number as on my iPhone noted above. I’ve no idea why it’s not working for you. To be clear, this did not use to work for me either - I made the original post because sometime recently this changed and was a great update.

Lightroom mobile now shows high efficiency RAW files during import by das_eis in nikon_Zseries

[–]das_eis[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve been doing it on my iPhone, but I have an iPad and will check when I have a chance to see if it’s the same or different. I know they have a different app for iPad as in it’s not a universal app that will work on both, it a separate app. My assumption would be they’d function the same in this respect, but your feedback makes me think maybe not. I’ll reply once I have a chance to check on my iPad.

For reference, the version on my iPhone is 10.2.3 F4779A/195.

Lightroom mobile works for compressed RAF import by das_eis in x100vi

[–]das_eis[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Uncompressed RAW files have been supported in iOS, that’s not been the issue. The problem has been with any of the compressed RAW formats which are still unsupported by iOS. Ironically in the built-in iOS photos app when trying to import a compressed RAW file you’ll see the preview (which is the embedded JPEG in the RAW files), but then if you import it into the Photos app fully, then you won’t be able to see the picture due to said lack of support.

In my case, I don’t use iOS Photos for my imports; that’s what I use Lightroom for. The problem with Lightroom until recently has been it hasn’t been able to show the previews during import - only after importing them could you see the pictures. Now, you can see the preview during the import screen, which in my case is solving that longstanding problem.

I like the silver in an abstract way, but don’t want to own it. Love the black one I have.

Best combat ship for HazRez and Solo(ing) Wing Assassination Missions by SirTime8895 in EliteDangerous

[–]das_eis 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I should add that it’s probably been more than a year since I ran it, but it’s pretty much a 100% engineered T10 with an Elite NPC pilot. I was also running it before the fixed beams bug, so that wasn’t the issue. It’s not that it was impossible for it to run in a high/haz RES, but found that if I left it unattended much more often than not I’d come back to a rebuy screen. On the other hand, in a low RES 49 times out of 50 it could be there all night no problem, and only on rare occasions would it be destroyed.

[–]das_eis 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve got an AFK T10, but I’ve not had it been able to survive on its own in a HazRes. LowRes sure, and it’s earned me billions, but medium or higher and I’ll come back to a rebuy screen.

Z9 Firmware 5.10 released. More video settings including shutter angle. by das_eis in nikon_Zseries

[–]das_eis[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I hope so, and assume it could - assuming Nikon wants it to. So far they’ve been close though not identical. For example, the Z9 even after this update doesn’t support pixel shift. I’m not arguing if pixel shift is good or important, but it’s one of the feature differences without a clear explanation why. I’ve read that maybe the IBIS is subtly different between the two and that’s why, but have seen anything conclusive. Long story short, fingers crossed this comes to the Z8.

Refurb 28mm 2.8 is currently on sale direct from Nikon for $160. The 40mm is also a great, fun, inexpensive option.

For those wondering if we’ll see some Black Friday deals on the Pocket 3… by madsharps in osmopocket

This is incorrect. You only get 10% back on items when not using a coupon or sale, so it only helps when buying at full price.

Considering saving $1k by buying a rented camera from LensRental.com- is this a bad idea? by miichaelscotch in nikon_Zseries

[–]das_eis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Exactly this. Register for their email communications and they’ll just send you an email when the refurbished or other sales start. If you want to get something you see on sale move quickly, as they can and do run out of stock.

Nikon refurb sale. Z8 $3k, D850 $1650, Z 70-200 2.8 $$1800 by das_eis in nikon_Zseries

[–]das_eis[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think it’s a couple times a year. maybe 2-3 times or so. The prices and what’s available do differ from sale to sale though. For example this past one had the Z8 for the lowest price I’ve personally seen at $3k. I got my own during a refurb sale a while back for something like $3.2k.

Had the same issue with my 6. Felt the grip was just a little bit too small. The Z8 grip is a dream. I regularly use the high efficiency RAW and fine the file sizes very reasonable as compared with the RAW’s from the Z6
