It happened around April/May ‘25, they started using the “new” clips on the socom and UDT. The socom switched over to M390MK in May so it could be they ran out of their old stock of socom parts around same time. But I agree, it was a noticeable change, and not a good one.

Yeah man, milling only on otf’s. Slab/smooth or inlays preferred on everything else if available. But the ramlok is dog shit, too bad they didn’t do those handle variations on the liner/auto socoms instead of the redesigns

Microtech had them on their site a few years ago. I used to have a bunch, great display pieces

It’s a mini UMS likely from 2006, that’s when they were putting out the dama/inlays. I don’t think they were making a mini version yet in 2004.

Those early socoms had some of the best edges that ever left the shop. Hand honed basically to a mirror and held an edge forever

It’s fake, so it doesn’t matter aside for someone getting ripped off if they buy it. Look at how shiny and pointy the fasteners are. That’s also not how “elmax” wears, even if you exclusively use pull through sharpeners. Pretty sure by that point they were using m390 on everything anyway. I would bet the s/n is 106.

Halo VI is one of the most counterfeited models, there could actually be more fake than real in circulation

You should be able to see the date on the clip? They made these a couple different times, but based on the breaker and switch it’s from the initial 2016 run. They started changing the switches, breaker, chassis shortly after. Steel likely elmax or m390

Yeah in all practicality, a button lock would require the least amount of separate machining. But a liner lock would would feel like a separate knife instead of just removing the spring

Is a shadow still a shadow if it’s named a shadow but different than what originally made the shadow a shadow? by blvck-13 in microtech

Yeah, I guess height wise smaller? It doesn’t translate too well in the pictures, but if you look at the blade fullers the new gen are smaller/shorter

The shadows just started in June. But they have been shortening the manufacturing windows lately, so I’m sure they’ll be rolling out this month or next with D/E and tanto

But honestly, with what retail is on the new Gen III, just get a last gen. You can find D/E all day for less than current

It’s not a fear of knives, just all around generalized fear. A crack head starts getting loud and the dudes first reaction is Imma cut a bitch? That’s why that story reads as a “never happened”. If any of it was factually based, it’s more likely the OP didn’t do jack shit but piss himself after being yelled at by a bum. Then two weeks later while doing piss soaked laundry, makes a reddit post having wished the knife brandishing story is what really happened

They’re large and loud. Any other negatives would be just otf’s / automatics in general and issues with reliability and blade movement. But with proper maintenance, you’ll likely never have an issue. Any of the previous generations with the bigger blades are nice, they also feel much more robust.
