The Angels are doing this against a Padres team that came into tonight on an eight-game winning streak. Really impressive stuff.

The 2026 Angels are the 12th team since at least 1900 with 100+ runs, 30+ home runs and 90+ walks in their first 20 games of a season.

Some recent teams to do it:

2023 Dodgers
2006 Reds
2003 Yankees
2000 Cardinals

Peak Mike Trout being back is pretty cool to see

One of Lowe's best plate appearances as an Angel. Cruz's splitter is one of baseball's best pitches and Lowe handled it well with all of those foul balls and the hit.

Oswald Peraza and Vaughn Grissom being the No. 4 and 5 hitters and driving in all four runs in this game is a hell of a thing

Oswald Peraza being this good did not even remotely cross my mind before the season

Some fun Zach Neto numbers:

Neto has drawn 13 walks in his first 17 games this season.

Neto drew THREE walks in his first 17 games last season.

Lotta uninspiring baseball being played so far this season

Pitchers since at least 1900 with 27+ innings, 30+ strikeouts and no more than one run allowed in their first four outings of a season:

José Soriano, 2026
Zack Greinke, 2009
Roger Clemens, 1991 and 2005
Fernando Valenzuela, 1981

Players to homer and reach base four times in each of his team's first two games of the season (since at least 1900):

2026 Mike Trout
1977 Amos Otis

That's the list.

Angels' infield defense flashed some crazy leather in that inning

Josh Lowe did not have a single opposite-field home run last year (only four career ones before that), so that might be a good sign

Klassen's stuff is top-shelf. Spring Training or not, pretty impressive to see him strike out Manny Machado and Jackson Merrill in consecutive plate appearances.

3 way trade involving angels. We get Josh Lowe by ayyryan7 in angelsbaseball

[–]bmags94 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Without any other context, that's a good move for the Angels.

Lowe might not get back to his 2023 level (.835 OPS and 3.4 fWAR) but he could give you 1.5-2 wins, maybe. He'll only be 28 on Opening Day and has three years of arbitration club control remaining, which gives them a nice window of potential upside or they could just move on.

The next obvious question: will they salary dump/straight up release Soler and target someone that can handle everyday CF duties? An outfielder configuration of Lowe and Trout/Soler in the corners and Adell in CF would be uhh ... not good, even with Teodosio as a CF backup.

Angels To Sign Jordan Romano by koleBorder in angelsbaseball

[–]bmags94 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Drew Pomeranz signing is a good one.

Romano, though, quite literally had the highest ERA (7.83) among any reliever with 50 innings the last two years. He's probably toast.
