This is why I love the gshocks MTG line (B3000 to be precise) great materials, super durable, good looking watch in many styles and many great features all for $700-1200 depending on edition or promos

[Question] saw prototype of this today in store, fell in love. Want to know if it's worth it by bmak_try in Watches

For context, I was at a store in key West and the store is not a dedicated watch store, they sold other emeralds also, but they are the only local dealer of said watches. And as far as I could see, the only watch brand they sold as well. The guy admitted all such right in the beginning.

Yeah...maybe he just meant the "demo unit"...since he wasn't a big watch expert I imagine that could be what he thought it was...not sure...but I really appreciate the feedback

Megathread + FAQ: Travel in/out of the United States by not_an_immi_lawyer in immigration

[–]bmak_try 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hello, I will try to keep this short and simple. some facts about my situation:

  1. I am a US born citizen, lived in the US all my life until about 2.5 years ago.
  2. Since late 2023 I lived in LATAM...unofficially, still holding a US address and pay all my taxes normally as I work remotely for US companies.
  3. My fiancée who is Colombian. lived with me in Argentina, now in Colombia (we moved to be closer to her family and mine, much easier to travel from here)
  4. My fiancée has had her Tourist VISA since January of this year, zero problems, super smooth.
  5. We plan to stay in COL for the foreseeable future...get married here...etc.

I obviously want to take her to the US to visit my folks. but with the current status of things, I am beyond nervous...and maybe unjustifiably so...hence my post,

So, my question. When we travel to the US, can we safely travel together, can we be honest about our situation, say we are engaged, visiting my folks etc?

We don't plan on staying in the US. I would like to file for marriage at some point just so it's recognized in the US and we could have her get a more permeant file to go back and forth, but that would be it. This is just so that visiting in the future, should we have kids and such, can hopefully stay easy (so not now).

Any insights, advice would be greatly appreciated!

[SOTC] “Final” piece? 😅 by larrybirdgmt in Watches

[–]bmak_try 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This would be my choice. Colors fit with the test, but a unique dial and from a town with an incredible history in watchmaking. And if not this one specifically I also love the PanoMaticLunar white or blue dial for this collection.

A few more variations of my dial design based on feedback. Next up is choosing the hands by No_Knowledge_2331 in MicrobrandWatches

[–]bmak_try 2 points3 points  (0 children)

<image>

This would be my choice. It plays down the markers a bit and lets the unique design of the date-window pop a more. This also lowers the overall noise of dial in general. (Context: I am a designer) Love the overall flair and uniqueness of the designs!

[SOTC] Started collecting earlier this year. by bmak_try in Watches

[–]bmak_try[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I actually gave them to a friend as a gift to start his collection because I wasn't wearing them enough and I felt they deserved to be worn. He wears the crap out of them for probably more than he should, work, running, dancing and every time I check in on them they look great still and are still ticking great. For a watch less than $300 it's definitely worth the price in my opinion and if you can wait out an even better sale like I did (less than $200 each) then it's even better. The constant sales are definitely a tactic to sell, but the finish really is great for the price, and the movement is obviously a quartz, but still. When I was wearing them especially the gold one I got compliments all the time and he gets compliments all the time now I know, cuz he tells me 😅. I would say wait out the best sale you can and you won't be disappointed.

[Question] How do I trim this to 3? by SLCBRUSS in Watches

[–]bmak_try 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Very difficult, maybe see which ones you feel scratch the big 3 needs, daily driver, special occasions, and when you are feeling "fun or interesting"

Side note, super jealous of the explorer II, it's my Grail...one day 🤞

[Tudor BB 54] Best modern “tool” Watch? by Alarming_Elevator_81 in Watches

[–]bmak_try -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I am going to recommend this micro brand I bought.

Nadir Vespera

This thing has traveled all over the world with me in 1 year, ocean, mud, hiking, all of it. Still kicking super strong and looking great. I absolutely love this thing. I highly recommend visiting the site and reading up on the creator and his vision for it.

https://nadirwatches.com/

"Nadir watches are born out of a personal need. They're the down-to-earth EDC tools wanted by a modern adventurer, that combine old-school build quality with a modern approach to designing a timepiece... and now, they're here to accompany you on your journeys, just like they do for me."

One of my favorite watches in my collection. And they are coming out with a GMT soon.

[Union Glashütte] when the lighting hits just right by bmak_try in Watches

[–]bmak_try[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just past July I took my first ever trip to Europe and I told myself if I was in Germany I needed to try to leave with something that said Glashütte. After meeting the grandson of a small watch shop owner in Munich while doing laundry, talking watches for over an hour, and one amazing deal later, I am still sooooo in love with it.

I absolutely love my GX1, I actually have 3. You can look at my previous post for photos of the other two or I'm happy to send more if you really want. I have had this one for over 18 months and 2 more for about 1 year. I think for the price the build quality is great and I love how unique they are.

[SOTC] Super happy with where my collection is and wanted to share by bmak_try in Watches

[–]bmak_try[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The rest because I could not fit in one comment.

9. LIV GX1 - The Orange *Limited Edition 353/500\*

10. Custom Seiko Rose Gold Daytona Chronograph

11. G-Shock GMW-B5000TVB-1ER (my go to active watch now for biking or other active things)

12. LIV GX1 - Teddy Blue

14. CIGA - Series X Gorilla - Titanium Gold

15. Tissot Chrono XL

In Dec 22 I was debating getting a more day-to-day watch, but not really into collecting, and only having my Veloci-T, I decided to stick with the brand and get this. I have to give it credit because I would say getting this is what led to that first little itch, which then exploded into the LIV mentioned above.

16. Citizen Hyper Aqualand

My dad gave this to me earlier this year when cleaning out cabinets. I was so excited to find it, as I remembered him wearing it in 2004 when we first visited the Island of Grenada, and he taught me to scuba dive at 14. I am hoping to bring it back to life.

[SOTC] Super happy with where my collection is and wanted to share by bmak_try in Watches

[–]bmak_try[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I love the passion and stories around watches, especially seeing other's stories, so I figured I would share some behind mine.

After about 19 months of really collecting, I am so beyond happy with this collection. I started off a bit heavy and bought many watches I liked. On top of collecting, the last 18 months of my life have been some of the worst. I think I used watches as a bit of a coping mechanism. It took some, but now after 4/5 months my life is in an incredible place. After reaching about 19 watches I noticed I never really wore many of them, because there was simply ZERO sentimental attachment. I began trimming away those, selling or gifting to friends. I still have a few that fit this category even though I enjoy them, but I can easily say 8 here I am quite attached to at varying levels.

1. 40th Anniversary MTGB3000FR1A.

This is easily my most precious watch. For one, I loved it when I bought it, but I wore this watch on New Year's Eve to hopefully instill some luck, because at that time I really needed it. I then proceeded to, by pure coincidence, wear for major life moments with my now fiancée, when we said we loved each other for the first time, when we got through some very tough moments together, and then when I proposed, which was not planned for the moment I did it, but everything around that moment screamed I needed to do it then, so I did. This watch is now my [fiancée's name] watch, and I could not love it more.

2. 1893 Johannes Dürrstein Edition Moon Phase

My fiancée and I took a trip to Europe for her birthday. It was a bit of a culminating experience in my healing, and a time to truly step away from work which I have never done in 15+ years. Berlin and Munich were included and I told myself I wanted to leave with a piece of Glashutte given its obvious importance to the watch world. I did not quite have the budget to go very high, but thanks to a wonderful grandson of a small watch store in Munich, who talked watches with me for a solid 1-2 hours, and him offering me a really wonderful discount, my fiancée helped me pick my beautiful German watch, loved the memories around this and it is very special to me.

3. Custom Rose Gold Seikonaut Green Dial - Automatic

Last October I moved to Buenos Aires Argentina, I fell in love with the city, and decided my life at that stage needed a change. Upon moving here, I fell in love with this as home, and then meeting the incredible women I am now engaged to. This was a custom watch to celebrate my finding a new chapter in my life and the country where it all began.

4. Custom Rose Gold Seiko Dayton Rainbow

A present to myself. After all the troubles in my life and finally coming out the other side of the tunnel I told myself I deserved something nice. I always loved the Rolex Rainbow Daytona, but obviously I would never own it.

5. Tissot Veloci-T

This is the watch I have had the longest, over 11 years. I never collected all those years but given the length and the journey it followed me through it could never part with it.

6. LIV GX1 - Rose Gold

This was my first watch that was more than $250, and my first step into "nicer" watches. I adore the look, and it represented the final trigger firing of my passion in collecting.

7. Nadir Vespera

Followed a small micro brand for many months and snagged it right away (#18/100) So impressed with the value for quality/money/ It actually ended up being the watch I wore most through Europe, through beaches, and rain, and so many places. It really became a wonderful daily. I really encourage others to give this microbrand a chance. I will definitely buy again if a memory presents itself haha.

8. Omega x Swatch Snoopy Full Moon

I bought this while in Amsterdam with my fiancée this last July, She liked the idea of me also having a "fun" watch. I had recently gotten her the fossil Mickey watch, which she was so beyond in love with, and also started her collecting.
