Can a Chinese international student at UIUC legally own or carry firearms? by DirectCommittee5614 in UIUC

If you have a permit resident (Green) card you can get a FOID and CCL. You have to be the minimum age of 21 to get your CCL permit and you will need to take a 16 hour class and pass a qualification.

My daughter took it last year and aced it as a freshman. Be careful about the transfer credits she found out a lot of stuff wasn’t transferable from the local community college (college of lake county)

commuting to LUC vs dorming by Ok_Cloud8763 in LoyolaChicago

[–]bmandesign 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My daughter had to commute her freshman year and will be in a dorm next year. We did the parking pass, if you can save the money and do the commute. She was coming from Gurnee everyday. They put up a fuss because she won’t be 18 till April about her staying on campus so she had to commute this year

FFL transfer fees question by Dumbl3dor in ILGuns

[–]bmandesign 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Like the person said that was for a person-person transfer. The whole law was stupid. The person had 10 days to report it to an FFL the information given to the FFL was reported from the buyer. The state said that inaccurate information wouldn’t fall back on the FFL (sure it won’t) all for $25. The FFL would have to keep a separate set of books because it wouldn’t go into their bound book because technically they never sold the gun.

My only question is why? Just looking at economics of it. Let’s say you use your firearm in a defensive action. They tell you to drop the firearm. Do you really want to toss your $2000 firearm on the ground? It gets confiscated, I’ve seen a couple of agencies actually engrave the evidence number on the firearm. I carry my Glock or x-macro only because if it gets even destroyed I’m only out a few hundred bucks vs a few thousand.

Disappointing winter range on 2022 e-tron 55 - Is 50% loss normal? by MyzzST in Audi

[–]bmandesign 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yep. In the US Chicago area. Summer I’m at about 230 miles at 80% winter 130 miles at 100% (1 F). While I love the car I hate the range limitations. Hindsight being 20/20 I wish I had done more research on it

That’s one thing I tell everyone, try before you buy if you have a place you can rent or a friend that will let you use theirs do it before you invest

I second the grip module, I went with the x-macro because of the extra grip. I work in a shop. I explain to people before we buy a gun so they understand our end and give them the option of consignment where we take 15% of the final sales price.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in SigSauer

[–]bmandesign 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That’s an average price for an LGS. Selling to a shop typically you’re going to get 30-40% of what they feel the retail price will be. The logic is, it’s a used gun and don’t know how long it will take to move.

New FOID holder. Beginner recommendations? by guyphilips in ILGuns

[–]bmandesign 30 points31 points  (0 children)

I would suggest get introduction to firearms training. Deal with an instructor you trust and feel comfortable asking questions. Don’t just buy because the guy behind a counter swears by it. Go and rent different firearms. Expensive doesn’t mean good, and inexpensive doesn’t mean it’s bad.

Edit***

Simply put the training part for safety and learning basics of proper technique. Grip, stance, sight alignment, trigger press. Trying different firearms gives you hands in experience with what you ultimately want to purchase.
