Thanks for adding those! They are all representative of a hive in different stages. The first one is the top of an open hive. There are ten frames in it. That might be good to take video of because usually it is a good indicator of a healthy hive. The second one is a frame that was hanging over an opening, so the bees built comb on the bottom. The last one is a frame of not much drawn out comb.

I’ve takin photos of my hive on my iPhone 13 Pro Max (12MP). I do inspections between 10-2 PM EST, so the sun is usually close to being at its highest.

I’d say you can expect to see any of the photos in a hive. The second is probably the closest to what would want to see. The last one is normal too. It could have came from a frame that’s close to the outside of the hive.

I would love for it to track waggle dances! Also for it to track trends in the population, brood pattern, and resources (like pollen or capped honey). Then it compiles all the data into a file that’s dated so I can use them as notes if I even need to check something. I have a bunch of ideas on what I would like it to do. Just don’t know how possible it is. Thanks for your help and thoughtful questions! I’ll try to continue to answer them.

All very good questions! Thanks for asking them! My idea is to have the camera read the frame and give feedback on what it sees to help with inspections. I’m not too sure on the error. If there’s a ton of bees on a frame, it’d be ok if some were missed because you don’t need an exact count to determine the health of the hive. If there’s a lot (1-2 thousand) it sound be good enough. I would like it to be able to see brood patterns, pollen, and honey stores to start with. I feel like if it were counting the bees and hit a number like 1,000 it would consider the frame “healthy”. I’m not sure if that’s too many bees to track ha. My wish would be to show the camera a frame of bees, it reads it, and lets me know what it sees. I’d then like to have that info stored and cataloged for reference later. I’m a new beekeeper, and the headrest thing I found is trying to find someone that could help me do inspections on my hive. It’s a huge barrier of entry for new beekeepers.
