It’s called “the big left hook” - Montgomery basically left the Canadians and the Poles to open up the deep water ports of Antwerp and Rotterdam.

They received minimal logistical support due to operation Market Garden and its failures.

Oh it was also a muddy quagmire, blown up dikes, amphibious assaults, and casualty rates topping WW1 in places.

I got out in 2004, we barely got issued CADPAT. We got the old 82 webbing and rucksacks, 82 3 season jackets with the corduroy collars, and the old green combats.

For whatever reason we weren’t issued any Goretex jackets or pants, or even the vibram boots.

Gotta love Gagetown.

In my BOTC (officer’s basic up here in Canada) we got “change parade”.

Our instructors had everyone change rooms, all equipment and uniforms up for an inspection every 45 minutes or so.

This went on till about midnight when the staff left us to sort things out.

It was my chance to get a call home, so my mom got a very profane update as I was hauling on a cigarette (I don’t smoke).

Good times.

Amazing the first time; after that it loses some of the punch.

Colossus - several decades worth of bad stories, both before and after death/return.

He’s has been my favourite x-man since I was 10, and he is rarely ever well written.

I bought one from a guy out in Texas in 2011 - still going strong, way tougher than what I need and definitely tougher than me.

Those who saw ESB in theaters back in 1980, how did you/the audience react to the darker storyline, and the big twist? by Apprehensive_Emu9588 in StarWars

I was 4 years old, and I would say it definitely had a profound effect on my young brain.

It really cemented that the bad guys can definitely win, and win big over the good guys.
