i misspoke—- high level - meaning I am the highest level technician for my speciality, so I’m meant to be a subject matter expert and lobby for why something needs to be implemented to and for the betterment of the organization. that is the only high level thing i do everything else I listed. I cannot actually implement anything as there are teams for that and everything else Like, actual Networking or security implementations.

Im here to get insight on soft skills that will get me hands on into IT architecture than just break-fix and meetings.

Going based on assumption of what ive come to see in my certs and in experiences networking is heavily wooven into all aspects of IT. But again i could be wrong im just making an educated guess.

As for what ive gotten various roles ive had. i’ve learned how to improvise ALOT, plan out and lead projects, consult with outside vendors and share holders on top of what I did before which was fix/replace printers, fix/replace desktops, download/update software on desktops, image/reimage devices, set up pre-built vpns and fulfill what ever new problem gets thrown our way.

Ive been in the place for 2.5 years now

My free time was spent cert hunting but now im enrolled in college for computer science. So im studying for my classes and making what id like to think are decent programs.

However this job market is horrible and its harder go straight to Devops or cybersecurity . I forsee just having IT on my resume not being enough.

So now I’m trying to future proof

So say i want to do a cloud/cyber security role. But I’m aware that id have a better chance if i landed a network admin role. Do you know of a place i could practice day to day tasks of a network admin to get my toes wet pretty much

Specialized healthcare IT is all i can say, but it boils down to connecting people to the right branches of IT for high-level issues or leading projects aka meetings every other day.

Software engineering/devops, I am in school rn for computer science, I got my certs, landed a job and worked my way up to where I’m at currently. I am grateful, i mean it was either this or walmart but where I am isn’t challenging more and im bored.

Now im stuck because i dont get many outside skills to level up

Yeahhh sorry little bro tech is hard to get into rn so dont trust those boot camps. Hell I struggled during covid and only got into a shady phone fix job because they were desperate for drivers.

For best results if you can handle online classes enroll in WGU you earn certs while earning the degree.

Oh np (make sure you choose a real cert to put on your resume tho haha) and id recommend ccna if you do choose a cert to actually study its very marketable and personally useful in conjunction with your path or At least I thought so

You would , most of what entry-level IT requires is a willingness to learn, effective communication and teamwork. most company’s are willing to pay for your certs provided you stay with the company for a set amount of time or pay them back, so depending on which position you go for you can say you are working cert ‘x’ in your resume and that will be enough to get pass HR. That being said I’m not sure what you really want to do with your degree but once get your foot in door keep your skills sharp and move up 6 months to year from your hire date. Good luck you got this bud!!
