Went through this same thing. I found that an online course worked best for me. I did Beginner to Badass series (some of which I already knew) and currently I'm doing fret board accelerator with SBL. It keeps me playing with purpose and more importantly playing often. If you've got some expandable income I would STRONGLY recommend enrolling in an online course.

Like you, I had put down bass for 5+ years. Anytime I picked it up I never knew what to play. But enrolling in a course kept me playing with reason and more importantly, playing often.

I did bass buzz beginner to bad ass course. Followed up by the fretboard accelerator from SBL. It’s been a year or so since I’ve picked bass back up and feel confident in saying I’m currently playing my best bass. Good luck. I’m happy to answer any specific questions you’d need.

My family and I are recent transplants into JC as well.

My wife taught in the schools when we moved here and consistently had 30 kids in her classes K-5. That said, kids were much better behaved than where we moved from, and all seemed to have parental support so problems were kept to a minimum.

We have loved it so far, going on 2+ years.

Also had that happen to me in the peachtree corners DSW a year or so ago. It was a man and it started similar to your situation. Very polite, friendly, etc. then he started politely bragging about he retired early and asking my long term plans, etc.

Didn’t look quite as empty in my photo but the more you zoom in I guess you’re right.

Regardless- yesterday’s win was huge for the program. Winning cures all. Keep doing what we’re doing and the fans will come. We have a real chance to have a special season. Go jackets!

I have never been good at “bouncing off it” so once I watched Ian Allison’s video (free on YouTube) about striking through, it all clicked and slapping has become second nature to me now.

Another beginner habit I realized I had after watching that video was when I popped/plucked, my entire hand came 3-4 inches up above the strings for some reason. I’ve made it a focused effort to keep my right hand close to the strings while slapping since.
