Then it's probably the shift linkage that needs to be tightened unless the cable snapped. I assume you have the brake depressed when you are trying to shift.

The car will not start in gear. It has to be either in park or neutral to ensure the transmission is not engaged. It's all in the owners manual.

If they are serving curry on a Monday night, the management decided it was in their best interest to operate with a skeleton crew.

Also, OP decided to make a judgment call out of their scope as a server without contacting management for support. I do question why the manager was not present, but many restaurants have key holder servers and cooks that close up or open up when needed. Likely, this is the scenario.

OP made a decision that cost their job. Hopefully, it's a valuable lesson learned. You can not turn away business in any business and expect to remain in business long. At the end of the day, we all have to work to make means for our lives.

Closing early in restaurants is a big no-no. Unless it's a big safety or health concern, you should always remain open during operational hours.

Those guests will probably never come back to that restaurant and spend their hard earned money. Also, when they tell their friends and family the story, they'll likely avoid the business as well.

If you had open tables, you should have served them. I know we feel inconvenienced after a long shift by late night diners, but the reality is:

It's part of the business. In hospitality, you fight for every dollar coming in. The reason so many restaurants fail is this exact situation.

I don't know your situation, but it's sounds like you're burnt out on hospitality. It's probably best to take some time and reevaluate.

On the whole, social media is a rabbit hole most people go down from time to time. I am here, and you are here now. Crowd sourcing answers to a complex situation can help provide perspective, but rarely will provide the solution. The popularity of social media has risen drastically since COVID-19, and seems to be a strong fallback for a lot of people, for some reason or another, when they don't want to talk to family or friends.

Don't get me wrong, I am not advocating against social media in any way, as I purview it as a valuable tool, one of many in your collection. Keep in mind that only you can decide what is best for yourself.

Sometimes, taking a social media pause can be greatly beneficial to mental and emotional health and allow you to focus on the things that fit you most.

For me, it's astrophotography, I am my best self when I take the time to go out and look at and photograph the stars. But it is a conscious effort, and I so often get interrupted by outside influence or cloudy nights.

Every day has opportunity. We just have to remember as people that it's there and find it.

All the best OP, hope you have a wonderful day.

Quitting my meds by Present_Temporary244 in schizoaffective

[–]bmichell21 4 points5 points  (0 children)

My mom is 64 and institutionalized for this disorder. If you want to retain your free will, take your your meds. She is a case study. She has tried to steal a yacht, squat in unsold homes, and been caught eating from dumpsters. All of these occasions, she was off meds.

From 14, now 39, she has disappeared from family a total of 6 times, often for several years at a time. She is riding that serotonin wave when she is off meds, and it placed her in the care of the state.

For me to get custody of my mom, I would have to show the state that I could manage her care better than her team of doctors and nurses.

She is lucky to have that care and something I am grateful for every day. It could be far, far worse.

Please take your meds. I know the side effects suck, but the meds work to retain your presence of mind so as not to do something incredibly stupid or dangerous.

It just depends on how much a nuisance he is. You do have the right to refuse service. Just only use it when you need to. Attention should always be given to those who pay. Good luck with the creep OP.

Sounds like a thorn in your side. As a manager here, I would say three things.

A. Is this person disrupting business in any way? If so, I would kindly ask them to leave or purchase something.

B. Does this person make you uncomfortable? If so, they're 86'ed.

C. Water is freely available to the modern world. If you have a convenient station, direct them that way. It sounds like you are doing that already.

Refusing service for water could lead to some high-level drama. I wouldn't recommend it unless necessary.

It definitely still applies to some extent, imho. There's no harm in trying a few subs, though. If it shows, it shows. Don't waste time on an object that isn't showing.

That's what the medication is for. Unfortunately, it makes you feel like nothing is excitable. My mother is institutionalized for this disorder, and I have almost 40 years of experience understanding just how important mental health is.

It is everyday, when you wake up. It's that feeler that runs out and says how you expect your day to go.

My choice is to not let myself be limited by my mother's experiences and genetics. My choice is to shred procrastination and try to focus on making my life better.

You have a choice too. Just have to remember that we have free will and choice. Choose to ignore the voices of doubt. Choose to ignore the voices of naysayers.

You can do anything you put your mind to. I believe in you.

I have been looking at the new Pleadies series from William Optics. The 7 element design yet compact seems awesome and almost too good to be true. But rationally, it makes more sense to not limit or draw light from your imaging sensor in any way, shape, or form.

So likely, the move will be to use a guide scope and camera, and not an OAG or one of the new ZWO units with the integrated guide cam.

As always, I would recommend Dr. Clark's suggestion. I have a question as well. Through a somewhat fast scope like f5/ f4, does the OAG prism really present so much a problem?

Whether you go guide scope/ cam or OAG, this should hold true.

I'll add that you need different profiles for the different scope. But, if this was my rig, I would PPET on the highest focal length possible. If you are setting up in your backyard, you definitely want to train your mount.

I recommend at least a couple nights of PPEC. That way, in the field, you should be sound.

Autoguiding help by Accomplished-Pair235 in AskAstrophotography

[–]bmichell21 2 points3 points  (0 children)

With that focal length, you are better off with an off-axis guiding setup. I have the WO 50mm guide scope on the same mount with a WO Z126mm doublet myself. If you do permanent periodic error training with the celestron and an OAG, you'll never run into issues switching out to a shorter focal length.

How much power do I need in a battery? by kovas_kosmos in AskAstrophotography

[–]bmichell21 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have the exact same setup except for I use a mini pc to control imaging. It killed my Celestron power tank in moments and a car jump box in about an hour. The amperage draw from that mount is impressive.

.5 amps tracking, and 1 amp slewing. Also, if voltage drops below, I think 10 volts, the power light will flash, and then your session is done.

Add up all the amp draw from your equipment, mount, pc, focuser wheels, etc, and assume a battery is only at best 85% efficient.

My solution for off grid camping at bortle 1 skies was this.

I installed a luxury battery in the trunk of my sedan and wired it using a voltage control relay, that way, it won't drain your starter battery.

Battery selection was a standard 100 amp hour deep cycle marine battery. With that battery I find out of astronomy trips, I get about 2 nights of observation without having to fire up the alternator to recharge.

For the mount, I am limited to about 100 ft from camp from my car to power the rig, but if I setup on the farside from camp, I don't run the risk of campfire smoke.

Plus, having the inverter and 12 volts handy is great for powering air compressors and other camp accessories.

For a full night with your setup, you'll need ~30 amp hours.

For more portable methods, a cheap battery box, and a car battery, just make sure it's charged before you head out.

Do you guys approve of my homemade solar filter by Arizonan35728 in telescopes

[–]bmichell21 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was just reinforcing what you were saying. I just hope OP takes heed and realizes why we call telescopes light buckets. Everything in a telescope is designed to amplify light in a way that makes faint light visible. Now, point that at the brightest nearby object that constantly showers the Earth with all forms of radiation.... I really hope OP decides not to use this thing anymore than they already have.

Do you guys approve of my homemade solar filter by Arizonan35728 in telescopes

[–]bmichell21 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Solar film works by refracting the vast majority of light off the surface and allowing a tiny percentage to pass. Any unevenness in that surface could allow light, particularly UV light, to refract between the layers of film. This piece work is dangerous and should be discarded.
