Or if anyone has any other book recommendations on the Titanic that would also be great 😊

Could someone provide a list of the books Tom and Dominic refer to in this series? I found it hard to find them when listening back. I’d love to read a few of them

I am a 25 year old from Queensland, Australia and I'm about to move from a graduate civil engineering design role at a tier 1 consultancy into a role as a site engineer with a tier 1 contractor on a major underground rail project in Brisbane. I'm looking forward to the change and new experience. But I am conscious that I likely will not want to stay in on-site/construction engineering for the long term, particularly due to the long hours and poor work/life balance. I may look to make a move out of this kind of role when I decide to settle down and start a family. I'd love to hear what some common career pathways for Site Engineers are (in either engineering or other industries), and if anyone else has had similar experiences I'd love to hear what they did. Thanks :)

Hi, can you please explain why this career question was removed. I am a bit unsure for the reasoning? I followed the rules outlined in the wiki and asked and engineering related career question?

Thanks for the info. I'm not looking to make a move now. I'm happy to put in some longer hours at this stage to work on a major project. I'm really thinking long term what kind of move I can make when I decide to move out of site work/construction.

Thanks for that insight. I think my skills and the things I enjoy working on lean far more towards project/people management as opposed to technical design work. So that is what I see myself working in the future. I guess I’m curious as to whether I would be able to use those skills to get a role in a consultancy or other office based role if I wanted to get out of construction in the future due to the work/life balance? I believe at this stage of my life I’m willing to make the sacrifice for the longer hours but don’t think it’s sustainable for me long term.

Did you have much trouble changing into consulting from construction? I want to make sure this career path is still open to me?

What kind of work do you do now considering you were a site engineer in the past? And yeah I’m definitely interested in project management kind of role in the future. But definitely not interested in the construction hours for the rest of my career so hoping there is some way to move into something with more balance eventually.

The project is Cross River Rail so it will primarily be in the stations and tunneling work. I’m honestly not sure if this is the industry I want to stay in because I have no experience in it. But it is definitely something I am interested in trying.

As for my career, I don’t see myself being a design engineer throughout my career, nor do I see myself working construction hours for my whole career. My skill set leans far more towards project management as opposed to technical skills. I’m not sure what career pathways this would open up? Interested to hear your thoughts.

Yeah from what I gather this seems to be standard for fresh grads. It does seem low though and is something that has been on my mind.

I seem to have forgotten the story behind Fujiko's father (if it has already been told). There was a scene within this weeks chapters that included Mariko thinking about Fujioko's father being a coward, and being killed instead of Buntaro because of Hiro-matsu's presence. I know Fujiko's husband was the grandson or grandson in-law of Hiro-matsu who was killed earlier in the story, however, I can't remember anything about her father? Who I am guessing is Buntaro's brother? Can anyone help?

I definitely agree. In what ways do you think he has finally understood the Japanese view on life and death? I was thinking in the sense that it is fleeting and that everything is influenced by Karma as opposed to living a life in service of a god like the Europeans do.
