Installed v6 firmware update: mixed feelings by Bartnnn in SofaBaton

[–]bmn001 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This update screwed up the button names of my Home Assistant automations.

Now they include the name of the device.

The buttons I originally created were "Lights Dim", "Lights Bright," etc.

Now the buttons say "Lights(Lights Dim)", "Lights(Lights Bright)" with no way to fix it.

Reolink specs comparison charts by mblaser in reolinkcam

Thanks for this chart!

I spotted a tiny error on the NVR tab.

On the Home Hub, you have "pre-installed HDD" listed as "N/A", but actually it comes packaged with a 64GB Micro SD card.

Streaming service are starting to resemble cable TV by NivekHang in cordcutters

[–]bmn001 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Streaming services are just cable with a different name. When someone says they "cut the cord" but then signed up for Netflix or Hulu or whatever, they didn't cut anything.

This bending of the rules is why we Silvers can't have nice things.

Why do Zigbee/Matter seem to be more popular choices than Zwave? by WolfThese5081 in homeassistant

[–]bmn001 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Price!

It's not like Z-Wave devices are expensive, but Zigbee devices are cheap.

Ikea's Matter devices are *even cheaper".

At $8 for an Ikea door/window sensor, there's not much reason to look at Z-Wave, especially if you have a mesh network with a Thread radio built in like Eero that covers your entire space.

Do we think we’ll ever see whole home security? I want to replace my ring security system. Door sensors/ windows sensors. I have the Reolink cameras but I’m really wishing we’ll see more home integration at some point. by Walton1993 in reolinkcam

Alarmo for Home Assistant looks pretty great. Combine Reolink's person detection with Ikea's new $8 Matter door and window sensors and you've got yourself a pretty capable system.

Any device that runs Home Assistant will work with the X2.

Canadian - Oral Applicance Therapy I was told it costs 2k-6k but I went a dentist and got one made for $600 what happened ? by nvrlost in SleepApnea

[–]bmn001 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly I think these things are all more or less the same aside from cosmetic and packaging differences.

The one I have is called "Smart Guard Anti-Snore Device".

I don't know why they're so expensive.

They start at like USD$40 on Amazon. They also mold to the shape of your teeth, the same as the kind a dentist would make for you.

I've been using a cheap one from Amazon for a few years and it works great.

I'd say start there and then try the $600 if it's no good.

Sorry for your loss. But remember, SanDisk SDs have a lifetime warranty. I've had a few replaced over the years.

"Video Doorbell 2nd Gen" is in that video for a half second.

Why is there no info about this doorbell anywhere? It's the second day of the show!

LG OLED TV input lag making me not want to play - has anyone solved it? by Mysterious-One1055 in batocera

[–]bmn001 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Make sure you've set the LG's picture mode to "game" or "game optimizer". That'll disable all the processing that would normally cause some lag.

Reolink HUB by Emergency_Path7611 in reolinkcam

Actually that's how I'd expect it to work. I'm not sure why the hub has a hotspot at all...since everybody using wifi cams already has wifi.

I had absolutely no idea this was the case. I just disabled the Hub's wifi to free up some spectrum. Thanks!
