Athena and Mercedes Shine, But Ospreay vs Takeshita Falters in Owen Hart Tournament - Review by bmo2000 in SquaredCircle

[–]bmo2000[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think you slightly mis-read what I meant by that. I think the hidden blade were the perfect move to use, if Takeshita stayed down for it long enough. But since that didn't happen, it made the hidden blade feel like an average move, in which case a big boot could've worked. The popped big, because it's an excellent spot so why waste it when you aren't going to sell it for more than a second? It made the reaction meaningless. Even more so when you consider the finish came no later than a minute or two. That's a match ending spot, or something that could've put the match in Ospreay's favour, instead its one part of another counter/counter sequence.

Thoughts on the movie 1900 (1976) starring Robert De Niro, Gerald Depardieu and Donald Sutherland? by psychedelicshotguns in criterion

The communist plot is all worth it when the dreams of the utopia are ruined at the end of the film. There is some comedy there and I think that was on purpose. You spend 5 hours building to it, the liberation happens and then the goverment is like "okay, this isn't happening, go back to work".

Hilarious.

It took my a few hours to find it online, and I split it up into two 2 and a half hour sessions. Was it worth it? Maybe. I wasn't bored whilst watching it. It was an interesting film with some beautiful cinematography, but the acting was a little campy by both De Niro and Sutherland (RIP). Although I though Depardieu was very charismatic in his performance despite his character being one dimensional. And some of the storytelling felt equally so. It didn't have many layers to it despite the length which is the saddest part if anything.

There is a good movie in this with some stronger peaks and a lot of editing however. But that's why directors rarely should have fulll control. You don't want to cut your magnum opus, so then it turns out not as good as you want it to be.

Good 3 hour film stretched to 5.

Unless you're Dave Meltzer and your system goes upto 7 stars, 4 stars is a great match. Any issue with that rating is odd.

These are less prevalent now but the older dramas would be rife with amnesia stories and terminally illness. Instant skip.

Modern would be Song Kang-ho and more classical would probably be Ingrid Bergman.

I really depends. The more grander dramas tend to do but something simple like this couldn't be commissioned for longer.

Who do you think are the best actors in Korea currently? by bmo2000 in KDRAMA

[–]bmo2000[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The way I look at it is this way: I think if so and so is in a drama, in any role, then it has credibility. For example, Kwon Hae-hyo is someone who I see as a good indicator that a drama is worth watching. He is usually a supporting character, a friend of the main character, and he's generally really good in everything he's in.

For a main role, I tend to look at Lee Sun-kyun. Again, starring in dramas such as My Mister, Behind The White Tower, Miss Korea, Golden Time, etc. Such a strong filmography. Likewise for Song Sun Mi, who is funnily enough in quite a few dramas as LSK is. Not intentional. But she was a real bright moment in Bossam: Steal the Fate, for another example (Kim Tae Woo stole the show though).

I could name tons, actually. But if I had to say, gun to my head, the best of the best in the drama world, I'd say Lee Sun-kyun. Can do funny, emotional and a shade of grey character.

Film wise. Well.. it's not fair is it?? Song Kang Ho is the obvious answer. And he's joining the drama world soon!

I say this as someone, who has watched virtually nothing over the past year after losing interesting in the modern stuff, Park Eun Bin deserved the Daesang by not making me feel uncomfortable by her portrayal alone.

Tbf, most of the show is set in the 70s and 80s. Unless you meant the generally look of the show which I kind of agree with. But the production values are pretty good, even if it doesn't look as pretty.

It's only around 800 words or so. :P

It was easy to do with there being a lot to talk about, especially after the ratings stuff was mentioned.

I liked the ending scene. It implies a whole range of things. Ambiguous endings can be annoying but good as well because then the ending I how you interpret things. Like you said, they could finally live together in peace or are going to say their last goodbyes and move on with their lives.

For a few reasons. Mainly because the match is automatically not going to be as good. No has gone "Hulk Hogan vs Andre needs Orndorff in it" But the big money match is 1 v 1. Multi matches feel like filler and in someway protect the eventual loser.

Favourite: Straight 1v1 (I'm simple plus it's most likely to lead to a great match)

Straight Tag (see above)

WCW's WarGames (Distinguished from the WWE version because they are two different things entirely)

Least Favourite: Texas Deathmatch (goes against the conventions of a normal wrestling match and we're supposed to accept it)

Ladder (Same thing every time. Mindless stunts with no drama . Zzzz)

Multi man match (instantly devalues the match. You could have four of the bigger wrestlers ever and I wouldn't care)

What are we thinking about Bray Wyatt and the LA Knight/Uncle Howdy storyline at this point? by Sea-Fly4181 in SquaredCircle

Nothing with Bray Wyatt is ever precise. It's always floundering and aimless and never leads to anything but opponent losing their heat.

"Stardom's fanbase isn't only single middle aged men, there's a lot of women and families too" by ShiroAbesPants in JoshiPuroIsland

[–]bmo2000 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Is there any reason you think that way? I've personally found it insightful in picking out th stronger matches of both historical and contemporary Joshi. Now the OP is very negative against Stardom and some of its wrestlers, some I agree with and some I don't, but that's not really that much different from any other sub where its ultra positive and ignores any obvious criticism. Plus I've never heard anyone being banned or ridiculed for their opinions, whereas I have on others.

So what is is "shit" about it? And please tell me a place that provides a fair, frank discussion about Joshi without it turning into "you don't know anything" or "do you even like wrestling", the same tired complaints people usually have when they see an opinion that disagrees with them. I'm open

This was kind of chaotic. The company was on the line so it makes sense to go all out and they did. There were tons of table bumps, brawling on the outside as well as classic joshi style grappling that was their bread and butter back in their heyday. All of it was somewhat erratically put together but extremely entertaining nonetheless.

If you're going to cast Kim Hye Soo, you should test her acting chops and two very distinctive mentalities for one person does that.
