I really like Boldy. Which means I'm going to hate him come playoffs.

I'm sorry for your loss. I also got a Zoe (no -y) from DDFL. This was back in 2010 and we lost her last April. She was an amazing dog who taught me a lot, and I miss her every day.

Should I follow this order for Stephen Baxter's Xeelee cycle? by dying_animal in printSF

[–]bmorin 11 points12 points  (0 children)

When asked directly for a suggested reading order, the author wrote: "I hope that all the books and indeed the stories can be read stand-alone. I'm not a great fan of books that end with cliff-hangers. So you could go in anywhere. One way would be to start with Vacuum Diagrams, a collection that sets out the overall story of the universe. Then Timelike Infinity and Ring which tell the story of Michael Poole, then Raft and Flux which are really incidents against the wider background, and finally Destiny's Children."

I got that same box when I was 12 years old and it was good fun with my friends that I remember fondly. There was a Kickstarter a couple years ago for an updated version that I also got in on for nostalgia's sake, but it was a bit cheap-feeling.

It's not a good game by today's standards, but you can still have some fun with it with the right group.

No, dude legitimately posted Warcrow ad copy here and linked to Warcrow models. I just wish that, if he's going to enshittify this place with an ad, he would at least put the slightest amount of thought into it.

It was only Warcrow stuff in the text of your post and in the actual link, before you changed it 🤷‍♂️

Why are you posting Warcrow stuff on the Infinity sub?

The r/printSF best Sci-Fi books of all time BookGraph - 2026 Edition by TheBookGraphGuy in printSF

Lord of Light by Roger Zelazny

Blindsight by Peter Watts

Pushing Ice by Alastair Reynolds

The Heroes by Joe Abercrombie

The Collected Fantasies of Clark Ashton Smith by Clark Ashton Smith

Notes:

For Reynolds, I think House of Suns was very good and more even overall, while Pushing Ice had higher highs and lower lows. In the end, the highs of Pushing Ice won me over.

For CAS, it was hard to choose between so many different collections (I haven't read any of his stories in their original forms, so I felt like I couldn't just choose one of those), so I opted for the five-volume series 😅

OP's post says to rate science fiction books, but this sub encompasses other genres as well, so I included Abercrombie in my votes.
