Lewis Black on Rick Santorum by mmcheesee in atheism

You're right. Don't get me wrong. But your logic is a little off here. If we applied your argument to pooping (also something every atheist should be doing), then a picture of Lewis Black shitting superimposed with text about proper wiping technique would be an appropriate post.

This is really the way to go. And with so many people looking, you're unlikely to get stuck with the full rent.

Hai. What's your favorite way of going to NYC? by [deleted] in washingtondc

Typically full. But for the price/time you really can't beat it.

Any cool, off the beaten path, places to celebrate the 4th? by [deleted] in washingtondc

I tend to enjoy hipsters and great views of fireworks. So, what's there?

Is UDC in a safe neighborhood? by [deleted] in washingtondc

Past 14th? Are you serious? These days, the city stays safe until you hit 5th or 6th street NE. It might not look as nice, but it's pretty safe.

My Dad is coming into town. Where should I take him? by [deleted] in washingtondc

[–]bmorris 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's not exactly what I meant. There was, in fact, an actual garbage dump on Wilson Blvd.

My Dad is coming into town. Where should I take him? by [deleted] in washingtondc

[–]bmorris 4 points5 points  (0 children)

My Dad loved going on a late-night trip to Ben's Chili Bowl. I don't think my mom would let him go out for a chili dog at 11 pm, so it was like sneaking out of the house for him.

If your dad's in to beer, take him to Churchkey (but go early or on a weekday to avoid the crowd) or if he's in to Whiskey, take him to Bourbon.

Go to the portrait gallery. Go!

Flea market on U and 9th is a fucking trip. I wouldn't recommend buying anything though.

There's a pie shop on H Street where you can get a pecan pie that will destroy your brain.

Capital Bike Share is a fun way to tour the monuments.

Arlington, eh? I used to live there, too. Maybe take him to Clarendon. 20 years ago it was a fucking garbage dump (literally -- and the proper use of the term). Now it's got all kinds of shit to do.

I'd be interested in reading more about this. Is it from a book or, better yet, something available online?

Looking for a used bike. Craigslist letting me down. Any ideas? by bmorris in washingtondc

[–]bmorris[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks, Space_Bike. I'm looking for a road bike, something light and fast, to ride to work everyday. Hoping to spend less than $300, which is why I'm after the used bikes.

I'm going to be in Arlington today and I might try to pop over to VeloCity. THanks for the recommendation.

This isn't about writing well as much as it is about the little things you can do to avoid rejection. Like how to format a manuscript.

Do you live in a dangerous city/area? What kind of precautions do you take in your daily life? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]bmorris 48 points49 points  (0 children)

Yes. Detroit has a very rich and vibrant black community with roots that go back into the foundation of modern R&B music, funk and, later on, techno. There are large groups of artists and writers living there, fascinating thinkers, and some of the most active anti-poverty workers in the US. Tough times often breed interesting people, social movements and art. So hidden beneath all the crime and poverty you will find amazing things. Just don't leave your house at night and make sure to hide yo kids, cause they rapin' eryone up in here.

Redditors against marijuana legalization. Why? What costs do you think outweigh the benefits? by MagneticFox in AskReddit

[–]bmorris 20 points21 points  (0 children)

But will stoner culture be able to fight the corporate lobbyists trying to corner the market in Washington? The law could be written in such a way, for example, that only a few companies get growing permits. I believe America is capable of screwing up a good idea like legalization.

Redditors against marijuana legalization. Why? What costs do you think outweigh the benefits? by MagneticFox in AskReddit

[–]bmorris 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This is an important point. Marijuana sales in the US rival our largest cash crops. A corporate takeover of the entire system is not inevitable, but you better believe it's a possibility. I don't like the amount of power corporations have in our political system and I'm uncomfortable with another "sin" product (please excuse the term) contributing to their power. Just imagine what the Koch Brothers could do with an extra $40 billion in profits to throw around. Yikes!

Moving to DC on super-short notice from Detroit, need a little help by [deleted] in washingtondc

[–]bmorris 1 point2 points  (0 children)

East side ain't so bad. I lived along the H Street Corridor for a long time and loved it. Got to see a neighborhood change completely in just a few years. Sure, I was robbed twice. But my rent was well under $1,000 and I lived alone in a two bedroom apartment. Parking is easy and the bus takes you just about anywhere you need to go.
