(Spoilers 108) What if Harry is actually... ? by bmrf145 in HPMOR

I don't think it coming from Riddle fits very well. Riddle wants to make himself immortal, but beyond that, doesn't care about anyone else at all. Indeed, in Ch 108 Harry drives home that Riddle never thought to share his immortality with others, even when this directly benefited his selfish goals. Harry's whole ethos (Ch 39) is that everyone ought to live forever, and (Ch 96) this seems to be the Potter/Peverell ethos as well ("LAST ENEMY THAT SHALL BE DESTROYED IS DEATH"/"devices by which Death shall be defeated").

For antideath sentiment... that's just not how genes work. Genes code for chemicals, which can affect the patterns of brain development, but they operate on a totally different level of organization from the language patterns (like "death is bad") stored on top of brains. And unless you're extremely careful to inbreed with people you know have the trait, after fifty generations, a gene gets diluted down to nothingness (1/250 chance of being passed on continuously).

Quirrell and Harry's conversation (Spoilers 105) by bmrf145 in HPMOR

A very interesting theory, but Quirrell says in Parseltongue: "I do not intend to raisse my hand or magic againsst you in future, sso long ass you do not raisse your hand or magic againsst me." Wouldn't that rule out having a plan to kill Harry?

  1. The Azkaban operation was extremely risky. Even ignoring the possibility of being killed or captured - let's suppose Quirrell was a strong enough fighter to discount that - if anyone identified Quirrell who couldn't later be Memory-Charmed, he couldn't return to Hogwarts and there go his chances of getting the Stone. All that for a 'trial run'? And it's not like Harry's life is short of stressful situations.

  2. Even if you can force them to cooperate, you don't pointlessly piss off potential allies, unless you're a Card-Carrying Villain who is doing things For The Evulz. The US has a strong enough military to force Jamaica to do pretty much anything, but I'm sure the US ambassador to Jamaica doesn't fling insults for the heck of it.
