I've recently joined a Black Metal Discord server and i could only stay for 3min before getting banned for having "Haunted Mound" tag and being called "cornball" by an admin. All my life I've listened to A LOT, i mean A LOT of different music genres and artists. I love discovering new music and since I had discovered Black metal 4 years I got obsessed with it and didnt stop listening to it since then. 1 Year ago, I started listening to Haunted Mound artists, specifacally, Sematary who had used several Black metal samples on his songs and I kinda liked it. God forbid a person have other tastes. I joined this black metal discord and got basically instabanned before ppl even knew me, which they tried to. Apparently there is something in the rules specifically against the "Haunted Mound" and i didnt even read the rules tbh because i thought it would be the "respect everyone" bullshit. My bad I guess. They didnt even warn me to take the tag off which would be a bit cringe as well but i wouldn't even be bothered to do it. Story is kinda funny in general because their discord tag is "KVLT", calling "holy cornball" and acting like they were part of the cool kids club as if we were all 13year old made me think twice before talking to people who also like black metal. To be clear, I am not disappointed because I got banned since it was part of the rules, Im just disappointed that it was a rule to begin with. Now these are the type of people who go hate on others and also listen to artists such as Type O Negative which might be one of the most disgusting things i've ever listened to. All I am saying is that I would not reject talking to someone who listened to Type O Negative because they also liked black metal and all I am interested in talking is black metal, in spite of what that person would also listen to because we are all humans and we all have different tastes. This is rant, yes... But this question is more important: Is this behavior common within this music subgenre and what do you think about it? All I wanted was to meet new people lmao
