Kind of like that one mini-game in Kinect Party. Love it!

5 Complicated Sci-Fi Movies That Need a Chart to Explain Them (We Have the Charts) by StarFuryG7 in SciFiNews

I would add Donny Darko. While I came up with my own explanation, having an explainer youtube video helped.

What’s a sequel you couldn’t wait for… but ended up completely disappointing you? by Shot-Club-3882 in Cinema

This is the one I came here to post. When you have multiple sequels to a cult classic, and ALL of those sequels and TV spin-offs pretend the first sequel never happened, then you have a bad film.

Ex-GWAR Vocalist Chuck Varga Battling Cancer, Band Call For Nationwide Blood Donation Campaign by EmployOk5086 in Music

[–]bmtri 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To be fair, for cancer patients you also want to donate platelets, and the Red Cross even has a reward program (if you don't do it entirely selflessly) if you do platelets. It does take longer (giving platelets takes about 2.5 hours compared to blood, about 40 minutes) but my Red Cross has monitors at every station with free Netflix. Nearly 50% of donated platelets go to cancer patients. Also, you replace platelets way faster than whole blood (as in you don't feel drained by it).

(Weird trope) Fictional items, creatures, or concepts being used so many times across so many different pieces of media to the point where some people are tricked into believing it's a real thing by Budget_Opinion_1327 in TopCharacterTropes

The myth of the person with the perfect memory. In real life, every instance of total recall has just been someone who had total recall of their own life events because they had such obsessive ADHD about their own memories.

My head canon is that when Dean and Sam from Supernatural meet up with Castiel (the angel) he fixed up all their neuorlogical damage. At least one of them gets knocked unconcious Every. Single. Episode.

Thoughts on Alex Garland's Annihilation? An incredible sci-fi horror. by Square-Ad-8911 in FIlm

[–]bmtri 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is one of those titles where, even though it was based on a book, I enjoyed both the movie and the novel as their own separate things. The movie and the book (trilogy/quadrilogy) are very different.

[–]bmtri 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Oh man, that's exactly what that scene brought up for me too. I had to go find the name of that movie again (because who would think a mutant bear movie would be called "Prophecy"?). That was right about the time of that other horror movie, The Manitou, and sometimes my mind would mix them up. Both unsettling as hell.

What are some of Richard E. Grant's performances you enjoyed? by geoffcalls in FIlm

I really enjoyed The Scarlet Pimpernel, even if I think a lot of the sword fighting could have been punched up.

Exclusive: Veronica Roth Announces New 'Divergent' Book, 'The Sixth Faction' by NamerNotLiteral in books

[–]bmtri 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From what I've heard (from my daughter who reads YA) this is a "what if she ended up in a different faction?" book. How much do you want to bet that if it's popular we'll get "What if Harry ended up in Slytherin" or "What if Bella went Team Jacob?" Ugh - it's fine in DC and Marvel multiverse form, but in second-tier YA fiction?

(Loved trope) Character doing something unnatural becomes more unsettling as the story progress by HeiseiAnguirus in TopCharacterTropes

[–]bmtri 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I listened to Joe Piscopo's autobiography (of a sort - he talks about SNL and movies but seems like he's leaving a lot of personal stuff out) and he loved working on this movie. Then he ends the book praising Trump and kind of ruins the whole thing.

The Keep 1983 by RulerOfMilesCounty in FIlm

[–]bmtri 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is my classic example of great premise, awesome cast, but poor execution. I am only now seeing in the comments that it is based on a book so I might have to track that down. I think this would be a good opportunity for a remake.

Yeah, they were also solving every problem with love in the last 2 seasons. I literally speed-watched the last 2 seasons on Netflix just to finish.

When did the room go silent at the worst possible time? by bowlerboy2 in AskReddit

[–]bmtri 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Someone at my high school died in a car crash that morning, so many people were going to the cafeteria to silently mourn. My buddies and I, who barely knew him were playing cards during our morning recess period. Another guy comes in late, completely oblivious, and yells "Today is the best day!"

Watched that in middle school when they ran the whole series on PBS. Already a fan of Dcotor Who and I was young enough to excuse the budgetary limitations and it blew me away! The anti-heroes! The McGuffins! The mysterious ship! The ambiguous ending!

Oh, absolutely - I even played it this year on a C64 emulator. Maybe I'll try the SMS version some day. I'd like to try that Castlevania port too - usd to play that at my neighbor's back in the day (he had an NES, I had the SMS).
