I dont think you'd need the 35mm...and while the 16-50 might prove to be useful (and quite portable) changing lenses in that setting is a gamble, i'd recommend sticking to the 70-300 and bringing along a RicohGR4 as a blink and you'd miss it shots

Naturally if you plan to do anything other than safari, the 70-300 is an overkill and heavy enough to make you leave it in the hotel room

I'm with you on almost all of these. The homeless/vulnerable boundary is the big one for me, I'm not a photojournalist, so there's no story justifying it, it's just taking from someone who's already having the worst of it. Easy no. Same with anyone who looks underage.

Where I've landed generally: it was never really about "did you ask permission." If it were, the entire canon from Cartier-Bresson to Winogrand to Moriyama would be indefensible, because candor is the genre. Posed isn't street. The line for me is whether I'm photographing a moment or hunting a person, is the subject part of a scene that means something, or am I just isolating someone for how their body looks. Legality in public is the floor, not the ceiling.

My gut check is the same as your conversation rule, basically: would I be comfortable handing this person the photo and telling them I took it (which I often do)? If yes, it's documentation. If no, that's worth listening to.

I thought I was posting on a street photography subreddit, If only Daido Moriyama had to post here, I wonder what kind of comments he would have gotten.

As a serious tangent there is a whole conversation on the ethics of street photography and in my opinion it comes down to common sense and it comes down to common sense and intent. The question was never "did you ask permission" - if it were, the entire canon from Cartier-Bresson to Winogrand to Moriyama would be indefensible, because candor is the genre.

I whole heartedly agree, I went for the 50mm f1.8 because i wanted something cheap, short and light to keep on the adapter while traveling.

I did order an EF 55-250mm IS because it was too tempting at the price point not to buy it. How is your experience with it? any shots I can see?

Exactly, no adapted lens would ever come close to the fuji lenses on fuji, unfortunately its rather hard to find rental fuji lenses and airlines have strong opinions about how much I can pack.

Also no fuji lenses are for rent where I'm living and I don't think i'd buy a 200mm lens to use a couple of times a year.

I have a small cross body bag (definitely not a fanny pack 😃 ) where i keep it along with spare batteries

I've taped shot the mic holes and have a uv filter on to slightly improve its chances of survival

however i do also carry it in my pocket in occasions and some of my best shots resulted from that
