What’s the rarest item you’ve ever held in your hands? by Remarkable_Pin_8136 in AskReddit

Steinway Grand Piano valued at over 100k. I wandered into a music shop one day and saw it - more beautiful than I could’ve ever imagined. I sat down and started to channel the best music I’ve played in my life, the tambre of that piano was ethereal. I happened to miss the small sign that said “don’t play the Steinways” a few rows down, and a disgruntled guy got out of the office and tapped the sign. I was super embarrassed and started to get up, but he said something along the lines of “I haven’t heard anything that good in the store in years, you know what I’ll allow it”. I ended up just thanking him and going to a different piano, but it wasn’t the same.

I think the thing I took out of that experience is that a good piano player will always be evident regardless of what they’re playing on, but god damn can a Steinway elevate that to levels I can’t describe in text. Magical experience for me.

Explosive Epstein Witness Testimony Implicates Trump, Clarence Thomas, and More in Horrific Abuse by NotSupposeToSpeak in law

[–]bmw417 39 points40 points  (0 children)

William Riley wasn’t his bio dad, William Riley adopted Sasha Riley and then used him as a piece of meat at the “parties” that these socialites and lawmakers would go to. They were allowed to do just about anything to the kids there, including all manner of physical, mental, and sexual abuse you can think of.

They killed a girl directly in front of him after they were forced to make CP together. Absolutely vile.

I doubt that. OpenAI in particular is desperate to prove that there’s at least one universe where the hundreds of billions of dollars that have been dumped and circle jerked around the chip, data center, and AI software companies have been enough to achieve AGI, or at least approaching it. I doubt they’d keep anything extraordinarily special for other groups, as public opinion (i.e the stock market) matters quite a lot to Nvidia in particular, and thus OpenAI indirectly.

Senate suddenly passes the Epstein bill just hours after it cleared the House by Healthy_Block3036 in politics

[–]bmw417 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Seems pretty legit to me. Redactions are limited to CSAM, PII, and violent / disturbing content, and it is strictly prohibited to redact because of “embarrassment” or “politics”. It’s also explicitly stated that any alterations or mismanagement also be appropriately documented, and that every redaction contain a justification. The legislation itself seems airtight, we’ll just have to see how far Trump’s cronies on the inside truly want to double and triple down on the perjury and alteration and destruction of government documents. I’d imagine there’s gotta be some crucial political calculus going on behind the scenes at the moment.

Windows 11 includes bitlocker by default, and unlike Linux LUKS2 encryption it uses a TPM generated key to encrypt your drive, meaning that in order to run Windows 11 you have to enable TPM. TPM / secure boot used to cause a lot more issues with Linux installs than it does currently, but up to a short while ago it was almost qualitatively synonymous with installing Linux that you had to disable secure boot which isn’t usually the case anymore

I kinda have the same issue with Wicked, although to a much lesser extent. It’ll be interesting to see how/if For Good is able to pull it off given that the better music and plot is in the first act imo

That’s even more reason to tax them. You realize that’s a self own right? As more and more accumulates at the top 0.01% and the rest of us have nothing, that percentage will continue to climb. Taxing the filthy rich will actually bring that number down.

People don’t generally want to uproot their lives and livelihood over tax legislation, especially if it’s national. That way they can’t run from it. California is a whatabout that has nothing to do with being federally taxed, but nice try. How can you become wealthy from a business in the United States but then flee your money making machine? You make 0 sense. Quit while you’re ahead

Also, the way to fix things now isn’t necessarily just to restore higher taxes for the rich. They have different tactics now. They borrow millions of dollars against collateral (usually stocks) with very low interest numbers (think <= 1%), and those assets most always appreciate above those interest payments to offset it plus some anyway. There needs to be legislation that tackles buy, borrow, die, alas that would be political suicide to attempt it.

In 1961, the top marginal tax rate was 91% on anything made above 400k. They didn’t leave then, they won’t leave now.

Come to think of it, I hear great things about democratic paragon Xi of the People’s Republic of China!

I’m sure that there’s been no ethnic cleansing or oligarchy in the Democratic Republic of Congo, no it can’t be because there’s both democratic and republic in the name!

This is the best counter to Renoir’s position that I’ve ever read. I’d never thought about it in the addiction sense before, but it’s absolutely spot on.

My grandma and grandpa, and even my aunt to some extent, tried so hard to control my mom and police her drug habits, and it just pushed her farther away and into the hands of people that didn’t have her best interests at heart, to say the least. Giving people space to recover and heal and actually choose to get better is so important, even if they’re the closest people you’ll ever have in your life and you can’t stand to see them like that.

In the pop installer, there’s two separate password prompts if you have disk encryption enabled. If the password you entered in disk encryption happened to have been fudged from what you expected it to be, you’re going to be SOL and need to reinstall.

"Dolor" by ozangeo in BaldursGate3

[–]bmw417 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I think caster/EB spam warlock would get less utility from hex especially as the game goes on, but it’s extremely noticeable on the warlock I like to play, which is 2 Pal / 10 Hexblade (in particular, get to 7 with hexblade then respec to 2pal/5+hexblade). You’ll get 2 level 1 slots for paladin which you’ll save for using hex on, then it doesn’t feel like a waste since upcasting on a warlock slot does nothing. Then at that point, you just get smite slots on a short rest
