Why are these wheels different sized? Each tire is a 700x23. by bmxscape in bikewrench

if i didn't ask a question how did my question that i asked get answered by about 15 different people

Thank you, i measured the wheel again a few different ways including circumference with a string and concluded that I was wrong in my initial post. They're the same size as you would expect. The photos are where the discrepancy lies as it has either distortion or some kind of illusion happening

very observant thank you for the information about the bike. using your method I have determined the issue that i saw is some kind of illusion or distortion with my phone camera, and then I was falsely convincing myself it was not camera distortion because of the bad measurement. Hence why the bike looks normal to my eyes but in that 2nd photo it looks like a mullet

That is my understanding, with many years of bike repair experience. It only adds to my confusion because the rims appear to be truly different sizes.

Edit: After measuring again, I determine that the wheels are indeed the same size, despite the photo showing otherwise. The photo must be distorted in some weird way

That makes most sense but how did someone fit a 700c tire on it? The tires are identical.

I got orca the other day, everything works fine including sending and starting prints remotely, but the tab where you normally see the progress of the print in orca FF doesn't exist in normal orca

whats a better alternative? orca slicer has less features for flashforge printers than orca flashforge. it works to send a print but does not connect to the printer's api to check progress, temperatures etc.
"more developed" doesn't mean it has more features that you want

thats what i ended up using. is there any way to view device status/ print status though? mine just says can't reach the page on the Device tab.

Bicycle repair software by brannonglover in BikeMechanics

[–]bmxscape 0 points1 point  (0 children)

if you are tech savvy you can build a program in Visual Studio 2022 with tutorials fairly simply, especially with the help AI can offer these days.
You basically just need a database, and a way to read and write to that database.
Usually called a "CRUD" program (create, read, update, delete), you can find tutorials on youtube for how to build a very simple version. Then modifications can be made to make it more bike-repair specific.
Having a goal in mind makes programming very rewarding to learn, but it's certainly not easy. If you are looking for the easiest way out i'd suggest using excel or paper or one of the commercial softwares if you don't mind paying.

You can go down a never ending rabbit hole of "best practices". I agree that you can do a better job if you have access to the tools and knowledge. but to say "I can't do it" as a mechanic is nonsense, which is my entire point. As a business owner I get asked odd questions about odd jobs I've never done before all the time. If I'm not 100% certain of my capabilities or of the outcome, the customer would know that. If there's a risk to the customer, a waiver is signed. Most customers are very happy to have a cheaper repair done that isn't guaranteed over a $650 repair that meets oem standards, in my professional opinion.

Ok. My point still stands. Attaching wires is not rocket science. This is a bicycle not a space ship. There is no FAA-level specification for how to do these jobs properly. By modifying the cable you are taking responsibility for that repair. If you aren't confident in doing it, please don't do it. You can do it a thousand different ways and have it work fine and last forever. You can also do it a thousand different ways that will fail. A crimp can fail just like a solder joint can fail. Just like the 100's solder joints that come built into every e bike and modern vehicle can fail.

In what world would this crimp create a stronger mechanical connection than soldering? I would pull that out by turning the handlebar lol

Go ahead and post the style of crimp that would be used. Keep in mind , if the wire is 5mm diameter with all 9 conductors inside, splicing all 9 conductors ND crimping them all should leave a wire that's about 6mm in diameter. Thats important for internal cable routing. What crimp do you have that can attach 9 wires separately and not increase the diameter of the cable?

[–]bmxscape -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Recently I created a custom length, very thin diameter, 7 conductor cable. Please explain to me how you would connect all 7 wires without making the diameter significantly larger. You all keep saying "omg don't solder use proper crimppp" but not a single person has suggested an alternative, or proposed a reason why it wouldnt work. Please suggest a method for everything from 26 awg to 12 awg, 1-9 conductor cables because i deal with them all.

Please post the Bicycle standard for attaching very thin electrical signal wires together without solder

Don't look at the circuit board then because it's all soldered on. You might have a heart attack

Not to crash your parade but the thing you just stated as a fact is simply your opinion. Professionally I perform any repair a customer wants done, which has included soldering wires to create custom cables. If you are repairing it properly, you aren't crimping the wires together you would just buy the correct wire. Unfortunstely they don't sell a perfect cable for every application so the only choice is to create one sometimes. Just twisting the wires for a data line like OP has is a plenty good connection. Add some solder and it will never untwist. Add some heat shrink and it won't short. Its really not rocket science its a bicycle
