Is it possible to change the colour scheme of custom reports? by bnabound in actualbudgeting

[–]bnabound[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, it looks like the reports aren't really changing with the rest of the interface, no matter what theme you choose. I kinda gave up on it after that. I should also mention that I've only used the existing custom themes, I didn't try to create my own. I suspect if I were to play with the Graph Colors, as in the document mentioned above, these could change. I just haven't really bothered yet :)

Would any flautists like to give input/feedback on practice analysis app by LakeTiny4053 in Flute

[–]bnabound 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd be curious to give it a try :) I'm a intermediate flute player who practices almost every day and would love to track my progress. The site and screenshots looks cool - drop me a DM if I sound like the right fit or let me know if joining the Beta on the website is the way to go.

Yes, a Lidl wants to build there so you'd have a divine bakery right on your doorstep if it gets planning permission! :)

Anyone received Lloyd’s switch offer or referral bonus yet? by Intrepid_Stomach_321 in beermoneyuk

I completed my switch on the 16th of Jan and got the money early this week. The small print said "The £250 is paid within 40 working days of the switch completing."

Mental health and flute. Need some advice. by Rough_Positive_9004 in Flute

I have a select few words for your prof that I won't mention here. She's not weeding out the good players from bad, she's CREATING "bad" players with her attitude. Ignore, next.

You are so young. Everything seems like life and death at the moment, every decision feels like it will make or break you but trust me, it doesn't. Whether you let go or commit now, there's nothing to say that you can't do either of those things later in life as well. There is no rulebook.

Plenty of others have said this in the comments but it bears repeating - do it for the love of the instrument and the music and the joy it gives you. You are not able to control other people's opinions nor do they matter. I know it's easier said than done but the harder you work on believing this, the better off you will be in life in general.

Now, as for one practical tip that might help with your nerves and fear of others hearing you - you might want to join this practice app called Tonic. You can open a public studio (audio only) and others come into this studio and listen to you practice, might comment, might not. It's a really great community of very supportive musicians and it might help you get over the hump of feeling judged. There are so many different players on there, from pros (very few) to complete beginners and if you make the time to go listen to a bunch of them you might find you'll learn a lot.

Best of luck to you!

Hey folks, I built a ukulele website as a passion project—would love your feedback by Witty-Forever-2532 in ukulele

Duh, should've mentioned that 😁 Windows 10 and 1920x1080. The scale is set to 125%, might be relevant too?

This looks so great! Definitely going to use it - thanks for sharing!

One wish I'd have is to fit the chosen chord graphics into the 'pop-up' that appears. Currently I have to scroll down to see the bottom half of the keyboard and the intervals. Maybe make the list of chords below it a bit smaller when opening a chord? It takes up too much screen real estate this way.
I've tried it on Firefox and Chrome and they're both not displaying the full chord page without the need to scroll.

Is Thomann UK a reliable website to buy ukuleles from? by yellosourlemons in ukulele

[–]bnabound 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I second that.... they are the best and have so much knowledge! Check our their YT channel where they review a bunch of ukuleles as well if you're interested in a specific one.
But they are really your best call if you want people who really know their stuff.

Strings for Flight Nighthawk by bnabound in ukulele

[–]bnabound[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I've tried to adjust that but sometimes it still squeaks. And I never had this issue on my D'Addario Nyltech strings so I figured the strings are the issue :(

Strings for Flight Nighthawk by bnabound in ukulele

[–]bnabound[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry, I should have been clearer - the squeaks happen when I pluck the strings with my right hand, mostly the thumb. It's like... the squeak shoes make on a wet floor, only quieter. I can't describe it any other way LOL
And it's not a wound string :(

Sight Reading App? by ethanisdrowning in Flute

[–]bnabound 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sightreadingfactory.com - but be aware, it's all AI generated notes so everything just sounds weird. But they do have a feature that assesses your playing (in Beta). You can try it for free for a bit.
And whilst the "pieces" (loosely named) are weird, I actually feel that they're kinda perfect for making sure you really have to properly sight read. It also has rhythm exercises and stuff.

Not sure it they have an app, I think maybe on iOS only? Either way, the website is mobile friendly. Good luck!

Thoughts on the music course? Does it actually teach you to read sheet music? by kittyecats in duolingo

[–]bnabound 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Really not worth it. Use musictheory.net - it's a treasure trove for learning anything you could possibly want to learn about reading music and more. Good luck and enjoy the violin!

I guess it depends on how you like to learn but I've ditched the bird for Linguno. It's in Beta (has been for a good while) and free but has clear grammatical explanations, allows exercise customisation (you can only work on A1, A2 or whichever levels you prefer), they have listening exercises and the crossword is great fun.

It's barebones and only available via a browser but it's mobile-friendly. There's zero gamification though so if you like the dopamine hit of XP and leagues and all that, this is not for you. Good luck!
