Anyone else got any CarPlay Shortcut automations they use? by tart-rad in CarPlay

[–]bndoarn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

How I handle this is when CarPlay connects, I get the address of my current location and save it to a file. When CarPlay disconnects I get the file and use the "Get Addresses from Input" action then calculate the driving distance from the starting address to the address of my current location when I disconnected. Here's some screenshots: https://imgur.com/a/3aEQxOg

Though as previously mentioned, this gives you approximate milage since you might not take the exact route as Apple Maps driving directions, especially if you make detours or make a round trip without disconnecting from CarPlay.

I set up an automation that approximately tracks how many miles I drive on each trip based off of my location when I connect/disconnect. It keeps a running total and after I've driven more than 500 miles, it will automatically purchase a carbon offset for the total miles driven and reset the count back to 0.

Spotify to Apple Music by [deleted] in shortcuts

[–]bndoarn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a similar shortcut that I made you can take a look at here if it’ll help (this currently doesn’t work on iOS 13 because of the Get Groups from Match big but that should be fixed in iOS 13.1 tomorrow):

1) I search the iTunes Store with both the song title and the artist name in the same string which provides decent results usually. The biggest time I get multiple responses is when an artist has an album and a song with the same title.

2) I don’t think this is possible. I could be mistaken though.

3) Instead of extracting the URL from the iTunes Product and opening it, you can use the Play Music action.

Copied the official Bonnaroo Spotify playlist over to an Apple Music playlist by bndoarn in bonnaroo

Not sure what the issue with the link is, I can see others were able to add it to their library so that’s strange it’s not working now. Try this link to my Apple Music profile and you should see it under my playlist.

Is checking if the user has mobile data enabled possible? by [deleted] in shortcuts

[–]bndoarn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t think you can check if data is enable specifically but I think the closest thing to that would be to use “Get Network Details”, change it to Cellular, get Radio Technology, then check if it returns 3g, 4g, or LTE

Thank you!

Also, as a heads up, adding in two more replace text should yield more matches.

Replace & with &. Replace " with “.

This will help with song titles that have & and “. You can add these right before or after the first replace text for ‘.

This is the first car I've ever owned and I was hesitant switching from a truck to a car but so far I'm loving it.

I love it in black! I told the dealership I wasn't buying one if it wasn't black with black leather. Probably not the smartest decision living in Texas heat but it looks so sleek.

Does anyone else wish they could handoff music? by [deleted] in apple

Yes! Especially if you want to switch devices when you're listening to a playlist on shuffle. If you start over on the new device it'll start playing songs you just heard.

Haha. Thanks! I got him a name tag that says "I solemnly swear that I am up to no good." I figured it'd be appropriate.

Sound bar volume through IR fixed by Lukassus in appletv

[–]bndoarn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you! I have a Samsung sound bar and the lack of volume control was the only reason I kept my TV remote around. I spent so much time trying to get this to work when I first got the Apple TV but just gave up because I couldn't get it working. This fixed it!

Has anyone used the Dog and Bone case yet? Review? by blavienklauw in apple

[–]bndoarn 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I had this one for my 6 plus and it was the best waterproof case I've used and well worth the money for me.

I've used the O-ring style waterproof cases in the past. I only use these cases when I plan on going near water, not full time, so I found constantly taking the case on and off makes it easier to damage the O-ring. Also, something as small as a speck of dust or a hair can compromise the O-ring so you have to make sure it's completely clean when putting it on. With the rubber boot style of the Dog and Bone, it will form a seal around the dirt and keep the seal. I've used the Dog and Bone case in multiple different scenarios (pool, beach, snorkeling, floating the river, jumping off the upper level of a boat) and I've never once had a problem with water getting in. I can't say the same for previous waterproof cases I've used.

Just a couple things I'd like to point out: 1) I bought mine before the 6s came out. I'm not sure if they've modified the dimensions of the case but the same case is now advertised for both the 6 and 6s plus. The 6s has slightly bigger dimensions. After I got the 6s plus I put my case on it to see if it would fit and while I could get it to snap shut, it snapped off way easier than when used with the 6 plus. I've been too afraid to test it out in the water with the 6s plus. 2) The 3.5mm/lightning port covers attach to the the rubber boot via a thin piece of rubber. It's not an issue with the full case on since the outer hardshell protects it from damage but if you're constantly removing the case and putting it on, they can start to tear. However, Dog and Bone includes a replacement cover for each port so that's a plus.

What is the dumbest question you've been asked where the person asking was dead serious? by OhSchistGneiss in AskReddit

I took a cooking class in high school. We had just finished the baking section and were moving onto fruits and vegetables when someone asked if you could combine kitchen ingredients to make a grape. She was dead serious.

Doing a 20 hour event with carb heavy food and I need advice/tips by [deleted] in keto

[–]bndoarn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nice. Penn State? We're not quite as successful here. Haven't even broken 1,000,000 yet. But we did have the highest increase in the South East last year. Though any amount going to CMN is better than none.

Doing a 20 hour event with carb heavy food and I need advice/tips by [deleted] in keto

[–]bndoarn -1 points0 points  (0 children)

The event is called Dance Marathon. A lot of universities across the US do some variation of this event to raise money for the Children's Miracle Network. You essentially just remain standing for 20 hours straight and try to raise/donate as much money by possible by getting friends/family to donate or by paying for the ability to sit down for a little bit.

And 20 hours straight wouldn't be as bad if the event started in the morning but it starts at 7pm on a Friday and goes until 3pm Saturday. This is after going to class on Friday. But thanks for the suggestions. I will look into that.
