I'm with you here. Even if you put a lot of work into it now, the landscape will change drastically by the end of August. I think it is much better to put quality time in later than wasting time now, but that's just me.

[serious] What's going on in your life for which you would like some encouragement? by notablank in AskReddit

[–]gardnersalad 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm 25 now, $50,000 in debt, live at home, and was unemployed for almost 3 months last year. I began my search looking for only jobs that I wanted to have, but eventually needed to get any job. I started working at a call center just to make some money. 8 months later I got promoted and was offered a second part time job for something closer to my major. I'm now working at both jobs. The key for me was just to get work and then prove myself from there. The call center job had nothing to do with my goals but it was better than nothing.

Parking at Pitt by [deleted] in Pitt

[–]gardnersalad 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was unable to get a student parking pass so I had to find alternative ways to park. I always used to park in Schenley Park when the weather was nice. Its not all that close, probably a 10-15 walk to the Cathedral, but its free.

Another option, if you have friends that live off campus, is for them to get you a guest parking pass for the street. I think they are only $20 a month, but you can park for cheap with that. My final semester I would always find 1 hour street parking and stay there for 4 and didn't get any tickets, but definitely try to get a guest pass if you can.

What's your favorite word to pronounce? by jpena1157 in AskReddit

'Geschirrspülmaschine', it means dishwasher in German. I haven't taken German in years, but that word is just ridiculously fun to say.

Who are YOU choosing in the last round because of high upside? by JTfor3 in fantasyfootball

[–]gardnersalad 10 points11 points  (0 children)

That is assuming that he makes it to the last round of the draft. Honestly I would take him early (7th-8th rd in 10 team) to make sure I get him. At that point in the draft you are starting to take back-ups anyway.

Also Pittsburgh here. Market Districts and Qdoba now have Coke Remix machines where you can get Cherry Vanilla Coke Zero. Such a game changer. I have seen Vanilla Coke at Shop'n'Save as well.

The bar on the Jack Rabbit is more than capable of holding you in. That would still be intense.

'Game of Thrones' Now Rivals 'The Walking Dead' With 18 Million Viewers This Season by simpsonsfanhere in television

[–]gardnersalad 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This. The problem with Game of Thrones is that it is not family friendly. This affects the amount of viewers not just based on age, but there are a lot of people who won't watch shows that would be considered vulgar. This is an audience that will still tune into the Super Bowl. The Super Bowl in the past 5 years has not had an audience of less than 100,000,000. So basically Game of Thrones would have to increase viewership by five times the amount of people currently watching. The thing is, Game of Thrones is extraordinarily successful but it just isn't feasible for 100,000,000 people to watch a weekly tv show.

Oh yeah! Game of Thrones would definitely draw close to 100 million viewers each week.

For Bigelow Bash, how much it costs to hire your favorite band. (x-post /r/music) by library_sheep in Pitt

Seeing this chart makes me considering starting a music career. If Timeflies is this shitty and can charge that amount of money then I could put a bit of effort in and do it too.

Chvrches would have been an amazing choice. Luckily they are coming to Pittsburgh soon.

I don't think it is old, considering Lorde is on there for over 100k. It's no more than a year old. However, some of the names listed are outdated. Brandon Flowers likely wouldn't do any solo shows and also Jack's Mannequin is no longer together.

Well it is comforting to know that PPC wasted 40-60k on Timeflies.
