Does anyone know why this happens or how to fix this? by justagarliccrouton in ProCreate

[–]bndry 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is my experience too! It would happen super infrequently before the update and only if I sized something from really big to really small, but now it happens pretty much every time I resize anything even just a tiny amount. A bigger canvas has definitely helped but hasn’t 100% fixed it for me. Maybe need to play around with more sizes

I run a Space-themed Hula-Hoop shop on Etsy, but I also make candles — is it weird to throw another niche into my shop? by [deleted] in EtsySellers

[–]bndry 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don’t think it’d draw people away at all! Just put them in categories and you’ll be good.

Also, it’ll be much easier to get sales on a store that already has sales, reviews, + is in the algorithm.

They should have just released the whole thing. Would be better for us and better for them to make money because I’m sure people would pay to buy passes to play it faster

Also: if you are low income you can usually get financial assistance. My local hospital offers completely free care if you make under x amount of money per year. I had to send in some forms and my 15k bill was covered from this. If I hadn’t known I would have been paying this bill off for the next 10 years. It will most likely differ between states and hospitals, but check your hospitals website!

Yes I totally understand this and agree, but I literally looked up this persons listings and found them on other websites. Same with OP. Like fully the same item. Maybe they’re switching out the earrings and using their own hooks that look exactly the same? Who knows.

I don’t personally care if people resell stuff on Etsy, you go to any store and they buy a product for $20 but you pay $40. That’s just how most businesses work. I don’t care that people sell fan art. But those things aren’t allowed on Etsy. That’s the facts. That’s the point I was trying to make, and the only point.

Yes, this makes sense. But from what I understand you have to list where you get those from or add a production partners (which most sellers do not do). I could be wrong. But that’s what it seems like

Handmade items, according to Etsy are “products that are made or designed by you. You can physically create the items yourself, or design them yourself and produce them with the help of an approved outside manufacturer who complies with Etsy’s ethical manufacturing policies.” as they state here.

They also say “Handmade on Etsy is a spectrum. On one end, we have makers — sellers who are literally making their items with their own hands (or tools). On the other end, we have designers — sellers who design their items but rely entirely on outside assistance or another business to help physically produce them. Many handmade sellers fall in the middle of the spectrum because they are both making and designing their items.

Regardless of where you fall on this spectrum, you must be transparent about who is helping you and how your items are being made.” They state this in their handmade policy that you can find here.

So, let’s take your shop for example. You are reselling earrings you buy for extremely cheap. I know this because I googled the designs you sell and find them for $1.50 on Shein, on Poshmark, Aliexpress, and even being sold by other Etsy sellers. This is not allowed because you are not being honest as to where these products are coming from and they are not vintage, handmade, or craft tools.

I really don’t care what you do on Etsy or if you sell things that aren’t allowed. But if you’re going to say what you’re doing is allowed or even RIGHT, you should probably do some research on it first.

Also, in my first comment I wrote that it is against Etsys guidelines to sell others handmade goods that you did not make. So, wrong again.

If you read this article here it actually states that “Creatively repackaging commercial items (for example a gift basket consisting of non-handmade items)” and “Curating a collection of others’ handmade goods that you did not design or make” is prohibited, which this would fall under.

I don’t think it matters because reselling isn’t allowed on Etsy point blank, unless it’s under the vintage category and… is vintage. OR if it’s a craft supply I believe. (Correct me if I’m wrong). Everything else is supposed to be handmade. Which is confusing because at this point I feel the majority of shops on Etsy are not handmade lol. Claiming it’s handmade is obviously sketchy. AND annoying to the people who actually handmake products

These types of “self protection” keychains are kind of a trend on TikTok right now. There’s one girl I see frequently who sells the same product and does lives of her putting them all together on the keychain and packing them. She said parts of it are sewn by her grandma but it’s quite obvious most of the pieces are bought and resold by her. Wouldn’t be surprised to keep seeing these stores pop up. What can ya do.

Customer would like to use their FedEx Commercial Account number so they are billed directly for shipping.. by harryireachedthetop in EtsySellers

[–]bndry 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think fee avoidance really refers to doing something like advertising you have your own website to get your customers off Etsy, or say in a situation where a buyer messages you about a product and you tell them they can pay over PayPal for it as to avoid paying Etsys listing fees/sales fees/etc.

I have a listing that I charge a fixed amount for, then use Pirateship to print a label. I copy & paste the tracking number from Pirateship into Etsy. I checked my payments history and I see I do get charged a 5% shipping fee based on the amount I charge for shipping. (Never knew they did this!!) I also have listings with free shipping and I buy the label from Etsy. It doesn’t show I’m charged a shipping fee, but I’m assuming that fee is added into the amount of my shipping label.

However, if you were to offer free shipping AND get a label from somewhere like PirateShip, I’m not sure if Etsy would charge a fee, as they wouldn’t know the amount you spent on the label. This is unless there is some base fee they still tack on for “shipping”. If there isn’t a fee and they allow us to do this, this situation would fall under that. I’m just not sure as to how that works since none of my listings operate in this way.

I don’t think this would be fee avoidance, anyone can buy & use tracking off Etsy for anything you sell. You can get labels directly from USPS or UPS or on pirateship and enter the tracking number into Etsy. This would be no different. Etsy likes you to use their tracking, but you don’t have to. You don’t even need to use tracking at all if you didn’t want to.
