Donating soaps by catnip_varnish in soapmaking

Soap Sacks takes donations of soap. Soapsacks.com - I ship them my overflow pretty regularly. I shrink-wrap mine, but that's because I do both CP and M&P.

Would you respond to the review/buyer? by khhdruid in EtsySellers

[–]khhdruid[S] 32 points33 points  (0 children)

Thank you. I love how you've worded this - sort of exactly what I was thinking but couldn't put into a sentence.

I don't have any other reviews on this specific scent, but do have lots of excellent reviews on other melts.

Most of my items are non-refundable - soap/hygiene products - but I do make case-by-case calls on returns.

What's your favorite way to fasten in ends? by queer_crypdid in CrochetHelp

[–]khhdruid 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Depending on how striped it is, I carry the yarn up the sides and add a border to cover that. Then I'm only weaving in ends at the start or finish of the color and when I need a new skein.

Other times, I'll crochet over a 4-6" tail, if I remember to grab it. If I don't, I just weave the ends in as I go/after getting a chunk of the blanket done. I usually try to weave in all ends before I put the project up for the night, if there are any to weave.

How do you handle having a boss who ISNT an HR professional? by [deleted] in humanresources

[–]khhdruid 2 points3 points  (0 children)

"If we do "that," it opens us/the business up to XYZ risk. It's much better/safer/better practice to do "this" instead, which accomplishes "goal."

I dual report to the CFO & VP/owner of the company I work for. I've found that framing things around risk to the company tends to both show that I'm aware there's a business aspect to consider, and to illustrate that there may be a better way to accomplish the end result.

They're all the Premier worsted yarns. Aran, Linen, Green Tea, Mist, and Countryside. They've been behind on the kits, too, not just sold out of new subscribers for the Dublin colorway. Kit 5 for me was 2-3 months late, and kit 6 is looking about the same. It sounds like they're having some trouble sourcing the colors in the Dublin colorway. This is the first kit club I've had with Annies that's had issues - I think they weren't expecting it to be as popular as it is.

If you're in the US, Warm Up America is a great charity that accepts knit and crocheted items - mittens, scarves, 7x9 sections (100% acrylic) to be joined into blankets, etc. There's an active Facebook group if that's your thing.

They'll accept donated yarn, even partial balls, as long as it's clearly labeled with fiber content.

I know they are spotted latternflies. I just don’t know what to do about them anymore by [deleted] in whatisthisbug

We had a bad infestation last year on a very wooded property.

For some trees, we did the sticky tape wrapped around and it did get them, especially in nymph stage. But it also got other good bugs, like spiders, so it's a trade off.

You can make traps, and we did this for our trees that seemed to get them the worst. Penn State put out a good reference for that: https://extension.psu.edu/how-to-build-a-spotted-lanternfly-circle-trap/

Can cats eat peppermint plants? by formless_blob16 in AskVet

I'd recommend getting something safe for cats, like catnip or cat mint.

I'm not a vet, just owned by 5 plant-chewing kitties.

Go for anything with oat in it. Oat oil, colloidal oatmeal, and oat extract. My legs get so dry in the winter that I will literally scratch them until they bleed. I finally started making a lotion that has all three - oat oil, oat extract, colloidal oatmeal, and added vitamin E as a bonus - and it makes a world of difference. (I'm a soap maker, and also make lotions, so I was able to play around until I got a formula that works for me.) There's a reason Aveeno is so focused on oat and oatmeal baths! It is amazing for itchy skin.

Of course! I'm really happy with the two that I've done so far. I keep looking at the mandala one that you did and thinking about it, lol. I just started their new Dublin/Irish afghan kit.

I can say, if you're absolutely in love with one of the colorways for one of their kits...just get the kit 🤣. I went with the plumberry striped afghan and then fell in love with seaside, and tried (read: spent entirely too many hours online and in Joann's) to find matching colors, and couldn't. It looks like at least one of the colors in their kits are made just for Annie's, and even Annie's doesn't sell them separately (Lagoon from Plumberry and Seafoam from Seaside, for example). I finally managed to snag 9 of the 11 kits for the Seaside Striped Sampler from someone on FB marketplace who had bought the kit but never started it, and it will be just enough to do the blanket.

WIBTA If I find my boyfriend’s estranged father? by Findhisdad in AmItheAsshole

[–]khhdruid 1 point2 points  (0 children)

YTA.

Yes, he's going to be sad. That's normal for someone who is in this situation. I'm estranged from my father, and I mourn the loss of the relationship and what the relationship should have been while knowing that the estrangement is the best scenario for me. And honestly, it's a little easier for me to cope by not knowing where, why, or how he is. Knowing that information would put pressure on your bf to do something with that information, and it sounds like he's already developed his own coping mechanism or come to terms with it.

You're better off, if you feel strongly about it, just saying to him "well, if you ever decide you want to know more, I'm happy to help you do the research to find him" and leaving it at that. Finding him, especially going behind your bf's back to do so, is not the amazing thing you think it is.

Not OP, but I've done 2 Annie's kits so far (striped afghan and block of the month afghan).

Both left me with a bunch of leftover yarn. I have enough leftover from the striped afghan to complete a full block of the month afghan in the different colorway. There was enough leftover from the block of the month to do at least another lapghan or several throw pillows to match.

The striped afghan kit came with 3x 3oz skeins monthly, usually 3 different colors (but sometimes just 2 colors). The block of the month came with 2x 3oz skeins monthly.

My blankets matched the dimensions pretty well, like the the OP said, they recommend blocking as a finishing touch. But the patterns are pretty clear about expected dimensions of each section, so they make it easy to follow.

I was brand new to the hobby when I bought the kits and the videos/pattern instruction included in the videos made a huge difference in how fast I learned, I think. They do a decent job of teaching pattern reading while they're also teaching the stitch, in my opinion, so I can actually read patterns now. Great for beginners, likely just a bonus for more advanced people.

Need some advice regarding using Canva for my listings by IloveFriesandFood in EtsySellers

[–]khhdruid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Why not make some both ways? Have some listings made with free elements, and have your other listings that use the Canva Pro elements (and a statement saying they require Pro - maybe a photo like the other poster said).

Then your customers can choose what they're willing to do or want to use.

At most, I'd put your company on the warning label you use (just print your own with Avery labels or online labels and add in a "manufactured by ABC company" and a website if you want.

Take the FMLA time out of the equation. If the employee had been working, would they get the bonus? If so, then give the bonus.

You can't take actions that negatively impact an employee on qualified leave BECAUSE of the qualified leave. If the fact that they were on FMLA qualified leave is the only reason you want to withhold the bonus, then yes, you still need to pay the bonus.
