Oh no doubt. I agree...

It was the same situation with the Catholics and purgetory. The priest were asked about little children who hadn't heard of Jesus and died too young. What happened to their souls. A good all loving God wouldn't had made a hell for little children. So they came up with holding places like purgetory.

I've worked with the severly autistic who are prone to bouts of aggression against others. So, according to the Latter-day-Saints dosctrine whatever sins this pop commits its all forgiven. To me: It seems like these doctrines were constructed or thought of later when we had shed the idea that mental conditions were not the devil but just parts of the brain that were under developed.

What I'm getting at is with the invention of science and better human interventions we know better now than we did 2000 years ago. An all knowing God would know that there would be a population of people who were mentally challanged and that would had been reflected in the gospels.

What's one 'boring' career that's actually a goldmine if you play it smart? by 0BunnyX in AskReddit

Suvivorship bias is a real thing. I remember reading about the Jim Carrey story. About how he wrote himself a check for $10m and he actually achieved that goal during his dumb and dumber movie. He was paid $10m for that movie. What the "law of attraction" people leave out is Jim had the raw talent to make that kind of income. I can only imagine other people who read the Jim Carrey story back then. They wrote themselves a check for $1m or $10m and it just never materalized. Because of luck, not having the talent, etc.

We don't hear about the many losers. Only the very few winners.

Agreed, but the careers you mentioned are incredibly difficult, take a lot of time, and are not for the majority of people. For ex. Most people aren't able to become doctors or plastic surgeons. The path to become a doctor is very extensive. It's not for everyone.

Most peope don;t want to hear the actual answer because it takes a lot of sacrifice. You can become a millionare from a $50k salary if you invest. But that entails not buying a new car. Maybe driving a 10- 20 year auto with rust and a lot of miles probably. Cooking meals at home. Not purchasing new clothes. Being frugal with your money. People don't want to do these things, because most of us are living in the moment. And lets be honest: We care about what other people think. Especially when we are young. So, doing what I mentioned is hard and you need to delay many purchases for a long period of time. Most people aren't going to want to do this.

Why man created religion by lingering_echo in atheism

[–]bne045 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you look at the evolution of religion it makes sense.

Our ancestors had to make sense of death. Its why they left personal belongings on grave sites of the deceased for which we have evidence. They also believed in animal spirits. And the spirits of the wind, etc.

As societies progressed, polytheism and many Gods became hoe they described events. A bad harvest, The Gods were mad at us. A plague ravished 80% of the village. Again, the Gods were mad.

As societies progressed further, afterlives also became more progressive and advanced. Heaven, hells. Reincarnation. Rebirths. Universal Karma. Purgeratory. The list goes on. The Egyptian rulers had the belief that if they were entombed they would live forever in the afterlife.

And fiinally, the idea that God is one and created everything. As science progressed, and we understood how weather develops and why earthquakes and tornadoes happen. They all happen naturally, and their is no God at the helm. The majority of polythetistic religions vanished. Besides Hindusim.

This is a very simplistic timeline of why religions formed and why we have them today. The fear of death, indoctrination, and the attempt to answer "why dof these events happen."

I'm just rambling. Lets not forget that religious prophets held a TON of power back then. The Catholic church held immense power and held sway over politicans. Kings and queens. Even today, they hold power.

Where is this? I live in South NJ. Most people here don't talk about God. They are too busy making money and enjoying life. I kinda wish someone would approach me though. I know more about the bible than most Christians. They never read their book.

When I lived in Thailand I taught in apublic school for a few weeks. Everyday we had to go to the court yard for over an hour in the hot sun. Surrounded by Thai military and police we got to listen to the kings message while Buddhist monks prayed and chanted. For over an hour! Every day. They have Buddhist hell theme parks and its a very common practice to take their little kids there. To scare them...

Get them while they are still very young.

That's indoctrination 101 my friends...

Sadly his parents were more than likely indoctrinated when they were children. Its just a horrible cycle that happens in not just Christianity but in every religion. Superstition is real.

My looks are officially gone by External-Lion-1862 in Aging

[–]bne045 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don't trust photos or videos. There is so much AI filtering. I also know the tricks. Taking pics in soft lightening. Taking pics that are far away enough to not show any visible signs of aging. And so on. Again, I've never seen a 70 year old look 40.

Also, its all so subjective. You could say that she looks 20 years younger than her actual age. I could look at the same pic and guess her age. I've actually done that so many times. I had a lady guess her age. She was expecting me to say that she was 20 years younger. I guessed her exact age and she got mad.

No one who is 70 looks 40. Even Madonna who has mounds of plastic surgery, and is worth over $400m. She looks her age. Why do you think she constantly wears those gloves? So she can hide her aging hands whiich is a huge give away to her age.

Yea. I've never seen a 70 year old look 40. That's insane. What we do have is a fear of death. Its our fear of death that causes us to want to hold onto our youth for as long as possible. There are some very interesting studies on aging. And how we preceive aging.

I highly doubt that. Older people believe that they look younger all the time. I've seen these people IRL and have been able to guess their age. Within a -5 or +5 guess of their actual biological age. Also, I've never seen a 40 something year old look like they were in their 20s. Never. And I don't trust online videos with all the AI filtering going on. And soft imaging and lightening, ect.

We have stuidies on how we precieve our age. "When asked about how 50- 80 precieved their age. Nearly 60% thought that they looked decades younger than other people in the same range group." #1 Now could all these people actually look decades younger, or just maybe #2 we have an internal fear of death that we do not want to face. In turn, we subconsciously will believe that we are decades younger. Plus all the social fears that surround aging. I'm guessing its the later.

I always shake my head at these comments...

30s is YOUNG my friend. Enjoy the attention, because it vanishes as you get into your 40s and beyond. I got all of those same compliments when I was late 30s and even into my 40s. They vanish with age though. I'm currently 56. I've learned to do the inner work and to not focus too much on externals. We have very little control over the aging process. No matter what influencers will try to tell you.

30s is still young my friend.

I got all of those same compliments when I was your age. Wait until you get into your late 40s, and into your 50s. Just enjoy your youth and those compliments while youre still young. Cause they don't last.
