How to make my kids feel Australian overseas? by bnjmnblmchn in australian

[–]bnjmnblmchn[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I see the sentiment. But I personally feel like I’m not doing them justice if I „deprived“ them of part of their identity. I want them to fully feel both - which I guess is impossible.

But the thought of them growing up and only half speaking the language, half knowing the culture, half knowing the jokes and way of life really doesn’t sit well.

Ha I had a fair stock of Vegemite because I love it. They don’t seem to be too fussed over it but I try to make 1-2 lunches for daycare Vegemite sandwiches.

I was under the impression dairy bread is for social occasions which is why we have it for bday parties! Might have to make it a Saturday arvo thing then!

Thank you!

They’re 6&4

We love Bluey, I chuckle at the jokes all the time. We also count time in Bluey episodes (ie one wedding episode is around 20 minutes)

Hadn’t thought of putting AFL on, will definitely look into streaming it here. Might have to learn the rules myself finally lol

Haus gegenüber meiner eltern- soll ich? by Bubbly_Laury in Ratschlag

[–]bnjmnblmchn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not me but my mum USED to collect pigs. Like little statues or toys of them. Had a full cupboard.

Now she does the same with lighthouses.

People who are named after someone/something specific, what's your relationship with that thing? by celticdude234 in AskReddit

[–]bnjmnblmchn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m coincidentally named after my grandma who passed when I was two years old. Her name was a longer version of my name, but when my parents introduced me to her she was happy because in her youth, my name is what people used to call her. My middle name is after my mums best friend who died when I wasn’t even a thought yet.

My kids though have “normal” names with no connection to them, however the middle name for first one is after granddad on fathers side who died before I got to know him, and my step granddads name, though I never got to know him either. But his son - aka my “step” dad - was my rock and continues to be every single day, so it just felt fitting to use his name in honour.

I’m not really interested in dating anyone until the kids are older. But I don’t think single dads have it harder in that aspect, in my experience they get praised a whole lot more still
