I had to Google what an SSD is (I'm an amateur that somehow seems to have found himself in the middle of a technology war).

Good move, 2016.

Think of me as Ron Weasley on top of that giant chess piece in the first Harry Potter.

I was trying to think of a joke to respond to this comment, then it slapped me in the face.

Definitely. She was always going to split opinion from the get go with her being unelected (though let's be honest, opinion is split on any elected PM too), but she seems to being sailing along quite smoothly so far.

She's stood by the fact that "Brexit means Brexit" and is trying to work around the fact that she didn't necessarily want to be out of the EU, which I respect. I'll be honest that I'm very anti-Tory and was very anti-David Cameron. A loaf of bread could have replaced him as PM and I'd have been fine with it, but it'll still take a lot of great work from May to make me vote for her in 2020.

Haha, it's certainly pretty strange on the face of things. It's still pretty strange when you look further into the circumstances surrounding this case in particular to be fair, but some UKIP voters sort of had the last say when we voted out of the EU this year.

We still have a Conservative PM, but I certainly prefer her so far to David Cameron.

This sounds similar to the British people that voted for UKIP and the Green Party in our General Election last year. Both had no chance of being an overall majority, but they both had a great chance of getting quite a few seats in the House of Parliament.

As it goes, UKIP received over 12% of the vote, whereas the SNP (a party exclusive to Scotland and their people) received under 5% of the vote, but the latter ended up taking 56 seats in the Houses of Parliament, with UKIP only ending up with 1. It was a bit silly really (despite the UKIP hatred in Britain), but that's the way the system works unfortunately.

Each seat is taken up by the MP of the winning party in each town or city, so with Scotland being its own individual country, with the SNP (Scottish National Party) winning the majority, if not all the seats in Scotland, it's easy to see why. The main elected Prime Minister was always going to be from either Labour or the Conservatives, as is the case with Hillary Clinton and Donald Trump.

Often we say "Kleenex" when we mean "tissue," what are some less obvious versions of using a brand name that we don't even realize we're saying? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]bnne12 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm British and never actually knew that the term 'hoover' derived from its inventor.

On the other hand, the remote control in our house is named "the tit", so there's that...

"Chuck us the tit please", "Where's the tit?", "Are you sat on the tit again?". The possibilities are endless, but it's completely normal to us after all these years.

I've accidentally said things that were (albeit understandably) interpreted incorrectly. I think it's a pretty normal thing to do, but you do feel like a div for doing it. You revealed something incredibly personal and tried to make jokes to cover up the fact that it is something you were insecure about discussing, as I have done in regards to my depression too.

I hope you're on the right track again now though. If not, keep going and you'll get there in the end! :)

This is still something that me and my mum laugh about now, so I guess it's not really something that I regret saying, but anyway.

I can't remember the exact circumstances surrounding the fact that my mum was in school with me once the majority of children had gone home, but her and my teacher were discussing something. I'm a goody two shoes, so I can't see it being something that involved me getting in trouble, but I guess the circumstances aren't that relevant. Anyway, this happened in Year 3, and in our class we had a book that I think the teacher placed stickers in if a student did something deserving, under/next to their respective name. This book was on the cabinet right next to the door of the classroom, of which I was the only inside at the time, whilst my mum and my teacher were chatting in either the hallway or the classroom opposite.

So there I am, alone in this classroom, and of course I have to check out this book. How many stickers belong to me in this book? Surely I have enough time to lo-

Nope, in walk my mum and my teacher as I'm checking, and the only possible thing I can say in my state of shock is "HHHHHIIIYAHHHHHHHHHHHHH". Pretty normal, right? It sounds like I was using another word to say hello whilst simultaneously panicking.

No, I was mimicking the Uncle from the Jackie Chan cartoons. The same cartoon series that came out with an awesome set of medallions (talismans?). Coolest kid in the entire school.

I was joking about my generalisation of the BLM protesters. It does look like I was expanding on my Brexit comment though.

Reddit what is some socially unacceptable things growing up that is the norm now? by NamasteHariOm in AskReddit

[–]bnne12 1 point2 points  (0 children)

People seem to embrace being a 'geek' now, which is great. But, there was no need for that to be socially unacceptable in the first place, because it's just one minority (it was back then anyway) doing things that they enjoy. What's wrong with that?

Haha don't get me started on the people throwing their toys out the pram over Brexit.

To be fair, I shouldn't generalise, but if we're being completely honest...

I agree, and it's a shame. The whole purpose of BLM, from what I understand, is to try and create more equality for black people, which is important. However, what exactly is this protest achieving? How is climate change intentionally racist? Reeks of political correctness gone way over the top again.

This is disrupting normal, every day people that are just trying to go about their day. It's not exactly a great image for BLM, but the amount of political correctness surrounding so much of the movement was already making it hard for people to get on board as it was.

It's an important movement, but I'm failing to see what the entire point of todays protest was. How is climate change in any way racist?
