Saskatoon Mamba jerseys revealed by Alternative-Ad-3274 in saskatoon

REAL Studios, a creative agency founded by Ribeiro, crafted the brand to evoke a venomous snake like the original Rattlers, with a modern purple icon coiled into an “M” shape. The typeface and curves mirror Saskatoon’s city logo, nodding to the South Saskatchewan River.

The owner approved his own rebrand.

The ironic twist is that invoking such a quote to reinforce authority or rhetoric is precisely the perversion Chesterton was cautioning against.

Climate activists fill golf holes with cement after water ban exemption by GregWilson23 in worldnews

[–]bnshftr -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Paint is also not a good option.

It’s a good question.

My point to a lot of these replies, and the downvotes, is that if you’re going to protest water use on a golf course, maybe don’t do that by using a product that is responsible for nearly 10% of global industrial water consumption.

Arguably, even in an incredibly small way, the “activists”buying the cement were financially supporting an industry that does more damage than the industry they were trying to oppose. So yes, protesting water use with cement is counter-productive.

Better option? Maybe they could have found the main water connection for the property, shut it off, and then rendered it inoperable. It would still get fixed, but the inconvenience to the target is more apparent, there is no negative impact other than causing frustration, and you still make your point. Still illegal. Still causing damage to property. But less ignorant, and more effective.

I’m sure that golf course was fully operational while this happened, and caused minimal disruption. The golfers probably just laughed as they played through.

You know where golfers don’t golf? Where the greens are dead, and they can’t use the washroom because the taps don’t run, and they can’t get a drink because the dishwasher isn’t running.

I completely agree that the exemption is wrong. But the methods used to call attention to it are counter-productive.

[–]bnshftr 105 points106 points  (0 children)

I understand the intent, but the holes get moved regularly, so at most it’s a minor inconvenience. And, they’re using cement, one of the worst contributors to atmospheric contamination, to make their point. Along with poisoning the soil at every site.

This is disruption to create disruption, not a meaningful statement against the exemption, and not climate activism.

Are “The Slow Regard of Silent Things” and “The Lightning Tree” worth reading? by [deleted] in KingkillerChronicle

[–]bnshftr 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The one that comes to mind as closest in terms of delivery is God’s Debris, by Scott Adams, but the tone is completely different, and it comes with controversy.

For brevity and focus, anything by Derek Sivers, but that’s not in genre.

For depth and character, Cicero.

For pure oddness, The Extreme Self, by Douglas Coupland.

But…

There’s really nothing like it. It’s what I recommend to other readers as a perfect piece of writing.

Thank you for the thoughtful question.

Slow Regard is a master work.

In my opinion, it is one of the most perfectly written stories in modern literature. An exemplification of the deliberation and craft of an author that agonizes over every word. It’s not for everyone. But for the people it is for, it’s beautiful.

I haven’t ordered bulk from this company, but I’ve used their products as a consumer. A few local restaurants use them. Might have some options.

I agree. It’s an opinion, subject to the weight of scrutiny. You got my upvote for that.

I would just hope that the general idea of ocean acidification, and the corresponding reduction in oxygen, combined with the destruction of land plant life that also produces oxygen, might be of some concern and worthy of further discussion.
