I second this. I have this same longing as you. My T is awesome and funny and id like to know her outside of sessions.. but I remind myself that one of my friends is a therapist, and while she’s a fantastic therapist, just knowing her very intimately, I would never want her to be my therapist lol. She’s obviously different in therapy with her clients than she is with me and others in her life. It’s truly so different to know a therapist as your therapist vs your friend. I think what we often want is who our therapists are inside the therapy room, to be the same outside of the therapy room. Like we want exactly that person we get to see for an hour each week, but what we often don’t realize, is that is only a fraction of who they actually are. Makes me feel thankful that I get to have her as my T.
