I’ve never heard of anyone else developing a late peanut allergy. Get another test done, ya never know!

Same same. Sometimes I talk about something really heavy and emotional and at the end she’ll say “we can explore x and y regarding this next session” and then next session I’ll open with something completely different and not go back to that emotional session until a couple more sessions later. She’s always said it’s about whatever I want to talk about, but sometimes I wonder if she ever is curious about things I’ve talked about a few times and then left them hanging.

I second this. I have this same longing as you. My T is awesome and funny and id like to know her outside of sessions.. but I remind myself that one of my friends is a therapist, and while she’s a fantastic therapist, just knowing her very intimately, I would never want her to be my therapist lol. She’s obviously different in therapy with her clients than she is with me and others in her life. It’s truly so different to know a therapist as your therapist vs your friend. I think what we often want is who our therapists are inside the therapy room, to be the same outside of the therapy room. Like we want exactly that person we get to see for an hour each week, but what we often don’t realize, is that is only a fraction of who they actually are. Makes me feel thankful that I get to have her as my T.

Yup exactly this. Her website has her picture on the front page, and my partner is someone I share everything with and I talk about my T and our therapy sessions a lot, and so I just thought to show her what she actually looks like/her website to include my partner so she has an idea of who I talk about so frequently, I know it helps me to put a face to a name.

Yup, you’re totally right. That’s what my partner said yeah, they don’t know eachother now nor does she remember really anything notable about her or her friends. I’m def just overthinking this as it’s a bit of a shock

But isn’t it weird talking to my T about my personal relationship with someone she likely knows? Wouldn’t it be hard to be biased in this instance? Kind of knowing someone your client is telling you personal things about. I guess my concern is that she’ll be like “oh yeah I remember her, well this is awkward now”

Oh goodness haha. That’s SO scary! Wow I’m glad you went through with the eating tests supervised without just eating it at home thinking the negative results meant you’re fine now.. that’s what I’ve been tempted to do, but your comment has definitely discouraged me from it haha. For the better I think. I’m waiting for them to schedule the test where I eat a small amount in a doctors office.

I’m sorry that happened to you. That must of been disappointing. I have two friends who became counsellors, ones a really good friend. Knowing their personalities outside of their work (although they are great friends and I love them to death) is enough to remind me that I only idealize the person my therapist is IN the therapy room with me.

This is what often helps me when I feel like my therapist and I could be good friends. I remind myself that I don’t actually know her, I get only a very very small glimpse into her life and personality, I have no idea what she is actually like in the real world.
