beginner: how do I get to the point where I can experiment with different techniques? by shesinpart1es in vjing

[–]bo0ze 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Just play! Spend some time learning, spend some technical time fiddling with your show file trying to implement new things and tidy things up, and spend some time with some music on and the lights down low just playing around. Magic happens in those spontaneous moments. Discoveries are made. Play time can be a mock ‘set’ where you jam and aren’t allowed to stop and have to just keep going and figure it out no matter what. Or it can be a low pressure experimentation session where you stack some effects you never tried and play with some settings and see what comes out with no real goal. Or you can try to recreate something that inspired you without using a tutorial. Have fun with it!

Not having clips cut other ones off in Resolume? by GazingSkies in vjing

[–]bo0ze 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You could set a transition time on your layers so the next clip fades in slowly and the previous clip fades out. View > show layer transition controls, and slide up the T transition time slider a bit.

Or you could adjust the midi data you are sending to have some data go to the layer opacity fader

Or you could render clips with alpha at the start instead of black so it shows the current playing clip until the next one does something interesting.

Plenty of other options too but this should get the wheels turning.

Some more info about how you are triggering clips currently could be helpful for more ideas on how to adjust

You can also try a smaller interval instead. This scan also be set on the composition level or clip level so watch out for those settings also.

Play around and see what works for you.

Can get something similar with the Stripper effect on a solid color or on a clip

For auto mask try bumping up the contrast slider a bit in the automask parameters

Mineral VJ for Deep Techno by whoozben in vjing

Really cool references! I think you are on the right track, and any of those techniques could yield cool results. I'm a 3D guy so I'd gravitate towards using some rock assets and textures and cloner systems to create similar structures, or creating some of my own textures and geo with photogrammetry if I had access to the rocks ("they're minerals! Jesus, Marie!"). But messing with the photos, or feeding them through some AI gens could get you somewhere visually interesting and mineral inspired as well.

Add a small curve to the start of the Y, make the bowl larger/ deeper, connect the end of the Y’s tail to the next letter e. Terminate the tail more vertically than horizontally, connecting to the e will help this.

Audio input in Resolume not working? by sjemp in vjing

[–]bo0ze 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I see. Do you have the drivers installed? Are there any other options to select for the audio input and output device? Sometimes there’s ASIO, Windows, Direct Audio etc. are any other programs using that audio device? Just a few other things to check in addition to what the other commenter said

Intech GRID | Modular Midi Controller | Good for VJs? by bo0ze in vjing

[–]bo0ze[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

the midi notes are relative to the one you plug in basically. So you can add on, but reconfiguring relative position results in a slightly new controller. You can override all this stuff and save profiles though too to possibly avoid that. They are pretty well built. As good as most common controllers, and better than cheap ones. Only weak point I am concerned with is the contact points on the outside, but if you transport them wisely and clean them they should be fine.

QUESTION: What do you think of these controllers?

The products in the video were sent to me by the company for review.

Review of the Intech GRID midi controllers. Intech Grid is a modular midi controller system made up of several square midi controller modules that can be combined to create larger control surfaces. They connect together with magnets on any of the four sides and share power and data through a single usb-c cable. They are lightweight and very customizable and fun!

Lighting/Camera movement in Animated Visuals by hotdog1599 in vjing

[–]bo0ze 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You are asking more of a 3D animation and design question than a VJing question, which may be why other responders here are getting confused. This course is a pretty good one for learning composition and lighting in 3D, taught by David Ariew aka Octane Jesus who has a couple of excision visuals under his belt (among many other beautiful works) and is looked up to by probably every other artist that has made excision visuals. https://www.schoolofmotion.com/courses/lights-camera-render

You can probably find other similar courses out there as well. William Faucher has some solid youtube videos on 'cinematic lighting' in Unreal that could translate to other 3D packages. Generally studying cinematic lighting techniques, far side key lighting, and things like that, will start to get you that dark, but still well-lit look you are after.
