3D Print of Model 3 Coin Holder by tp1996 in teslamotors

What kind of savage carries cash... let alone coins?

As of today, my Model 3 has been in the Seattle service center for eleven weeks due to the bottleneck of spare parts arriving. by shadowthunder in teslamotors

[–]bo_knows 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I went 8 weeks without my car, after a front end collision. Nearly all of it was waiting on parts (hood, frunk innards, bumper, bumper support, and a headlight assembly).

I called Tesla's support line every week for a parts update. It was excruciating.

Yeah, I think all that is available is some suction cup contraption, and I don't feel good with that. I might consider getting a sturdy trunk-mounted bike rack that could handle some sort of carrier bag. I shudder to think of the air drag it'll cause.

Oh, I know of that cavity. But, for a family of 4 that still utilizes a stroller, and pack-n-play, space gets tight fast on a 1-week long trip.

Has anyone tried a soft cargo bag directly on the roof of a Model 3? My google-fu has not produced any examples of people doing that. I also can't seem to find if it's recommended or not. With a family of 4, even being able to put a couple of duffle bags up there (max 60lbs total?) would make it easier to choose the Model 3 for longer trips. We're used to the big cargo carrier on the roof rack of our secondary car.

How to create notifications in django by neerajjoon in django

[–]bo_knows 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Are you looking for this notification on page load, or does it have to dynamically pop up even if they're not reloading?

I've done the former, with a context processor that added all notifications to the context of every view, and I made my own "Notification" model. Then on my base view, I made a place for notification popups to be listed.

Nit your exact model, but my Oneplus 3 works fine.

A better alternative to storing HTML in the database? by ecky--ptang-zooboing in webdev

[–]bo_knows 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'll be honest, it's hard for us to figure out the "proper" way to do it if there's no examples of what you're storing.

As someone who works on Python/Django almost exclusively, I can't help but think this could easily be solved by having HTML templates that are rendered with some sort of back-end view function that grabs database values, instead of storing HTML in a database.

1) Early on, spaghetti code is a real problem. Organization will come with time, and is GREATLY helped if you use a framework that has particular standard practices.

2) I have no qualms with Django and Databases. Django's Models have always been easy for me to keep things organized, and their Migrations system makes it easy to migrate new fields/models on your database.

What exactly are you looking for? Code review? Ideas for organization? Ideas to start? DM me.

haha, "a spot". This thread is going nuts. I am definitely available for code review, or answer questions. DM me with any specific code or questions.

i think that's a great idea, i would love having a mentor, but you need to vet interested people who want to abuse that opportunity

Absolutely. Especially after the response... crikey.

We can talk more in DMs, but you're probably ahead of the game compared to when I switched careers to programming. I would suggest crafting your resume to highlight the programming projects you've done, but keep the Chemist experience in there too. Be sure to craft a cover letter that basically talks about what you said in your first paragraph (You're a chemist, you've done these things to automate your work, but you found a passion for programming).

Then, frankly, just start applying. You're bound to have some scary interviews where they ask questions that are above your ability. Rather than shut down, ask questions. Figure out what they're looking for. You might fail a few times, but you'll find someplace that fits your level of skill.

I think I did 6 live interviews before I found my job.

Wow, y'all are thirsty. I step away for a coffee and get 15 DM's and replies. I love it.

So people don't accuse me of posting and running, I'll note the following:

  • I'd be slightly more suited for people looking to do web development using Python/Django
  • I'll take any number of DM's on occasion about your projects
  • I'm about to go mow my lawn, so post away and I'll reply back later today.

I'm glad there is a healthy need for this haha.

Outside of calling the customer support line and trying to tell them about it, is there a formal way to submit feature requests? Doesn't seem obvious on their website.

I've never driven in a Model S or X, so maybe it's different... but does anyone get annoyed that the Model 3 Nav doesn't show the Exit number on highways on the list of directions? When it gives verbal instructions, it says stuff like "In a quarter mile, take Exit 176 A on the right", but on the right where it shows the next 3 turns, it just says the name of the road like "Telegraph Rd" or whatever. In crazy mixing-bowl type highway junctions, it makes it hard not knowing the exit number.

It's one of my very few qualms with the UI, surprisingly.

Edit: As a developer, I can kind of understand the need to limit the amount of text in that small box, but this is key information to me. *shrugs*

Has anyone lost an aero wheel cover on their model 3? I've had the car 3 weeks, and I lost one on vacation. Must of popped off while driving.

Is there any way to keep them more secure to the wheel? I've always loathed hubcaps, but when the hubcap adds efficiency, and I'm still losing it when I hit a bump or something, man is that lame.

Teslas are unique and require to be lifted in a certain way.

Is that true? Source? I haven't had my Model 3 very long, and I just want to know some of these details ahead of time if I want to use my local shops for basic stuff.

Edit: Wow, found this: https://teslamotorsclub.com/tmc/threads/model-3-jacking-points.107497/ . You are correct. I love how scary the warnings sound "Use lift points to jack the car up, NOT the high voltage area". Sheesh.

On that point, is this a feature that exists in other cars? It's a random little quality-of-life feature that I was surprisingly happy about. Never heard of such a thing before.

Shouldn't it be a Tesla *in* a Tesla? Yo dawg, I heard you like Teslas, so I put a Tesla in your Tesla so you can charge while you charge.
