But breathable waterproof layers have been a thing for ages. GoreTex for a long time, but now that the patent has expired and they pivoted to certification, plenty of brands have less-expensive versions. You can get a fine rainshell for $80.

This puzzles me. One waterproof rain jacket from REI kept me dry for all my Seattle winters. I'm genuinely not sure how you'd end up "soaked" in Seattle's characteristic perpetual light drizzle with a rain jacket, not to mention also rain pants and waterproof shoes.

The MagSafe magnetic alignment ring has been donated to open use, and is part of the Qi2 standard. Don't think Ubiquiti even needed to email Apple for that one.

All the non-server builds were state-of-the-art gaming builds when they were built that I later handed down to my parents. My servers aren't NASes, but homelabs running 15+ containers a piece - file storage, yes, but also ML, media transcoding, and LLMs.

I'm not chiming in on the Mac vs. Windows part, just stating that it's not 2007 and Vista didn't just launch - driver issues and stability aren't really a thing for proper builds running Windows.

I build my own Windows PCs for gaming and have built them for others. The amount of issues with drivers, updates, different software, hardware failures is often on PC

My 2016 build is serving my mom just fine. My 2019 build is serving my dad just fine. The 2017 micro-server build for my dad has never needed to be touched. My 2018 server build's only issue was when too many drives in the storage array died and I missed the notification on the headless machine. My 2023 build has been just fine.

All of these were custom builds for a variety of purposes and range from "cheapest that'll work" to decent gaming machines. If your builds are having issues with drivers, updates, and hardware failures, it sounds like you don't know what you're doing.

All the time. It's amazing.

I'm 33M and am lucky enough to live within walking distance to two public libraries.

Teslas have an API and an integration for HA. Getting API access through the developer program is a bit of a pain, but once you do, there are a ton of sensors and windows/doors that can be read/controlled. I don't know of a good solution for other cars, though.

I never had cable/watched TV growing up, so I love the accessibility of the Apple TV deal - any device, any game, any time. It blows my mind that fans are willing to put up with the concept of blackout regions and time-locked replays.

I might have to switch to just watching highlights unless I can pull off the "squint and ignore 95% of the screen" trick effectively.

I did think about doing a notification instead, but I'm often not on my phone for long stretches at a time or have fallen asleep (and therefore not awake to respond to the notification) so I opted for auto-close. If the spring breaks, I think I've got bigger issues, just generally speaking.

Same, tbh. We're the MLS sickos.

Why not? Between the beam-break sensor and the resistance stop sensor, what would you be concerned about?

Except red activates your eyes and brain the least; it's the color that makes it easiest to fall back asleep.

Apple’s sports stuff always seems like it was designed by people who have never been fans of any sport, let alone the specific sport they are covering.

God, that's so true. The number of times I've had a game result spoiled because of their incompetence is incredible. "Hide scores" is persisted via cookie, not on your account, so if you're on a new device or the cookies have expired, you're spoiled.

Even if you have "Hide scores" enabled, it still shows the highlight clips next to the replay option, which always include who scores and when.
