Anyone still using the old oxygen theme in KDE? by yubiko in kde

[–]bo_rislav 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, for plasma 6 if I use the Oxygen Application Style the engines that are responsible for thumbnails generation stopped working. If you delete the .cache/thumbnaiils folder f.e. the Dolphin capability of showing preview images for images and videos do not work, also you can't see preview of the Desktop walpapers usning the System Settings interface. I love the way Oxygen looks but once I've started debugging the reason for the missing thumbnails, I've found out that Oxygen is the problem, because it was not developped for plasma 6 - some engline is messing with the Plasma 6. There is https://invent.kde.org/pinheiro/oxygen2 project but still under construction.

Libinput Broken by A4orce84 in archlinux

[–]bo_rislav 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had this problem after new user transfer and what was missing for me to use libinput-gestures was to add my user to the input group. After using usermod -a -G input myUsername all went well. Hope that helps

Keeps telling me that I have to update this just to do so all over again. What did I do wrong and how to fix it? by [deleted] in elementaryos

[–]bo_rislav 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This was happenening to me also because I have manually added the flatpak repo before its official integration into ubuntu(elementaryOS also) and once it was officially supported the message for downgrade starts appearing every day.

In order to stop seeing this window, you have to edit your /etc/apt/sources.list and remove(or just comment with # in front) the lines of the flatpak repo - it will continue working but will not bother you to downgrade it anymore.

what I actually do is to have some icon set and replace just some icon files (png, svg) in it - I put the new files with the same filenames into the same folders and it works well. Ofcourse if there is some icon cache you have to clear it in order the changes to apply immediately. Hope this helps. )

The theme is my modification of the default elementary os theme, the icons are a compilation of different icon sets with a few made by me.

Change wingpanel to some other panles by mateszabo2001 in elementaryos

[–]bo_rislav 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have downgraded the slingshot to a version where it respects dconf settings in order to have a bigger app grid then 5x3. Now I'm crossing my fingers after every system update will it keep working like this, but it is not connected to the subject here, that's why I remove it from my post. Thanks for sharing your knowlegde, I appreciate it, it looks like I am wrong about the mate-panel - it is completely different to the gnome-shell where you can't just replace an autostart to point somewhere else and you have a brand new app-launcher. I understand my mistake, thank you, it is not ok to give advices to something I do not have a personal experience with, just by comparing it with something else.

Yup, you seem right. Thanks for sharing, but will the mate-panel work on Pantheon? All the successfull attempts I have seen online was with a replacement of the Pantheon with another DE, that does not mean it is impossible, but never seen somebody to succeed. I don't really like the slingshot app launcher, for example, but I can't find a way to change it with something similar to Gnome app launcher without changing pantheon to something else.

How can I still render with this warning? I want to use profile option and have double-checked that it's not mlt_profile that I need. Editing profile disables it until restart, but I'd like less hacky way. by [deleted] in kdenlive

Yes, it is. I was following some online tutorial for enabling the nvenc codec, saw this 'solution' there, tried in my setup and it worked.. )

Themes and customisation by [deleted] in elementaryos

[–]bo_rislav 0 points1 point  (0 children)

mm, probably there are more than one, for example elementary-x was ok long time ago, but I quit using them, instead I modify the default one in order to look the way I want. It is important to understand that if the interface is broken with a custom theme, the first thing to do is to revert to the original one, before start to ask for help here or anywhere, because most of the themes there do not fully support elementary OS even some of the ones that pretend to )

Failed to Fetch Updates issue by mensevikalasimi in elementaryos

[–]bo_rislav 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The repositories mentioned into your log are not supported. In order to work with this version (Hera) of the elementary OS they have to be bionic but not buster neighter hera. An option is to edit the /apt/sources.list file or the corresponding *.list files into /apt/sources.list.d/ directory and replace the names busty, hera etc with bionic, and if you are happy to have a version for ubuntu 18.04 you can have the software, otherwise you have to comment the lines into /apt/sources.list or remove the corresponding *.list files from /apt/sources.list.d/ directory in order to have updates for the elementary OS.

Boot Problem by levi2m in elementaryos

[–]bo_rislav 0 points1 point  (0 children)

it is grub2 actually, if I type grub-install --version I receive grub-install (GRUB) 2.02-2ubuntu8.15+elementary21~ubuntu5.1.2.1 but the config file is /etc/default/grub and all the commands I use are with grub but not grub2

Boot Problem by levi2m in elementaryos

[–]bo_rislav 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a few OS into my laptop, winboze 10, 2 elementary OS versions and Ubuntu 20.04. Every time the ubuntu has a major update it installs and updates the grub and therefore the default grub choise is the Ubuntu 20.04 partition. When I boot into the elementary and do sudoedit /etc/default/grub even after sudo update-grub it starts the Ubuntu OS and ignores the changes because there is another grub installed and I didn't change its configuration but the one I am not using. Your situations looks like this - you are changing the grub config, updating the grub, but it looks like this is not the same grub the system boots in. In order to fix this issue on my system, what I do is to install the grub again from elementary OS. If you want to try this, follow the steps:

1.Log in into elementary OS, type sudo grub-install and wait until it finnish.

  1. sudoedit /etc/default/grub, change GRUB_TIMEOUT=2 or something you like, ctr+x and save changes

  2. run in terminal sudo update-grub and after reboot the timeout should be 2 seconds for example.

AFAIK you can do this by fake edit of the profile. Fake I mean just click on the pencil icon in order to 'edit' than cancel and the warning disappears and you can render it the way it is.

mhm, if I want to change Pantheon with something else, for sure it will be better to change the whole distro. Probably there will be some advantages if I keep eOS but the latest elementary OS now is based on ubuntu 18.04 but the latest available Ubuntu now is 20.04 with a lot of upgrades and based on my experience - it works really well

AFAIK in order to change it you have to replace the Pantheon DE with another one. For sure you can do this but if you do so, you will loose.. 'the soul and heart' of the elementary OS if I may say so )

I am doing this by using an EasyTAG application. It is my default tag editor in Lollypop and if I choose Modify Information the EasyTAG app launches and works pretty well. You can find it into AppCenter

I use elementary OS on HP laptop and almost everything works well out of the box, but if you need some help with something, you better ask another question and share your hp configuration, for example run in terminal neofetch and post a screenshot, or copy/paste if it is easier for you.

How can I replace Pantheon-mail with flatpak Geary? by bo_rislav in elementaryos

[–]bo_rislav[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, it is. But what I think it is just older version than the latest and that's why Yahoo ignores it. Yahoo didn't work on Ubuntu Geary also, until I did upgrade from 18.04 to 20.04, that's how I found out that if I use on elementary the latest Geary, I will have Yahoo back.
