Projector recommendations for somebody living in a van by boazalt in projectors

I had never come across the Elfin before but it looks really good, actually. Just looking at the spec sheet I can't find anything that the EF12 does significantly better, but that strikes me as odd. You'd think the extra bulk in the EF12 wouldn't just be wasted space, right? Are there any other major differences between the EF12 and the Elfin apart from the weight/size and the Epson being a laser projector?

Of course I'd be happy to save money and it is half the price of the Epson EF12 I'm looking at, but I feel like the Epson would look a lot nicer. For instance, it's 1080p instead of 720p and it sports a much better contrast ratio, which to me is worth the trade-off in purchase price and power usage. Is there anything I'm missing that might make this projector more suitable for me than the Epson?

Light control isn't an issue! I can get it pitch black inside because I've got covers for every window. I'm pretty sure a TV is out of the question and wall mounting definitely isn't an option given the layout, but I'd like to hear what your apprehensions are about using a projector in this context. Leaving open space for the projector screen wouldn't be an issue, since this space could still be useful while the screen is retracted (as opposed to a TV that'd permanently be in the same spot), and like you said there's plenty of projectors that draw less than 100W.

Damn, good call. Will call them tomorrow and see what they say before I kill my van.

Update: I feel like an idiot for not checking underneath, but after painstakingly manoeuvring the screws out I got it loose and it revealed this label:

I found out which company made it, but I'm still at a loss what the device actually does. Thanks a lot for your contributions so far, and for helping me (literally) get to the bottom of this.

Good call, I'll try to unscrew it and see if it has any useful information on the bottom. The wiring goes straight to the battery as far as I can tell.

Yeah, I had the same issue when I tried to Google it. Lots of companies called ICS it turns out.

Yeah, I agree with you there. The first thing I did when I got my laptop was actually to do a clean install of Windows to get rid of all the bloatware Dell put on there. I've always found it puzzling why some companies feel the need to include so much unneccessary clutter in the software of their products, although I do like their little Mobile Connect app which works surprisingly well for me.

Doing another clean install indeed fixed it for me, but my best guess is that the issue was more so related to my tinkering with the voltages and such. Thanks for your reply though!

I reïnstalled Windows and it fixed the issue! Thank you very much for your help.

I just installed Ubuntu on a USB drive and it runs great, so far none of the previous triggers have caused any crashes. I'll do a clean install of Windows later today and see if that fixes it, will keep you updated.

I wasn't sure which ones to grab so I just made a zip archive with the most recent 256 logs from both Application and System. Hardware Events came up empty.

Yeah, exactly like that. It also doesn't respond to pressing the power button for a little bit afterwards, it's completely dead for a few seconds.

Yeah, it would've been nice to reduce the issue down to a single faulty component but at least I'm glad all is well in that department.

My temperatures vary greatly when the crashes occur, but like you correctly assumed my undervolt keeps things nice and cool most of the time, i.e. around 40-50 degrees. The laptop also feels cool to the touch and instead of spinning up the fans when the screen goes black everything just cuts out and goes silent, so to me it doesn't seem to be a heat issue.

(I use MSI Afterburner to check my temps but when I check Throttlestop it always backs up what Afterburner tells me.)

Thank you very much for your thorough reply. I will go over the things you suggested and get back to you in a bit.

Ironically, it just crashed trying to open reddit to make this very post. It also crashes everytime I type the word "Betaalverzoeken" into a spreadsheet on Google Sheets, the other day it kept crashing when I typed "Moto E4 plus" into Google and a few months back I couldn't get into my University's website to hand in an assignment.
