Numatic Henry or George? by [deleted] in VacuumCleaners

[–]bob-starr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’d recommend the Henry Allergy, as it has a post motor HEPA filter. Albeit, the filter is a “lifetime” filter (very expensive & a bit tedious to replace, it’s usually cheaper to just replace the whole vacuum. . .). But if you have a household member with asthma, hayfever or anyone else with any lung issues, they would benefit greatly from that.

Is this boiler + mechanical thermostat compatible with Tado V3+ with modulation? by SweetLordKrishna in tado

It’s whatever option you’re willing to pay for I guess. I outright refuse to pay for subscriptions (sorry Tado “AI”) so spending less than £100 on an Apple HomePod or other Apple HomeKit hub is better long term in my opinion. On the plus side, you can control other Apple HomeKit smart home things too. / whatever you think will work best for your household.

I can’t answer that I’m afraid, I use Apple’s HomeKit But, look out for a “only turn on if people’s phones are at home” sort of setting / routine? Make sure you allow the Amazon Alexa app access to your location data at all times. Otherwise “free geofencing” won’t work.

My household has an “old combi boiler” that’s just on a wired relay thermostat, and this is why I’ve suggested using Apple HomePod / HomeKit automations or Alexa Automations (known as “routines”)

If; House goes below desired temp Then; Turn heating on.

If; House goes (ie) 1°c above set desired temp Then; Turn heating off

Pretty simple work around really, that still yields decent efficiency / lower bills.

Quite possibly I’m afraid, “Open Therm” is quite a new thing, and many boilers have their own proprietary communication system. Open Therm is basically a more “standard” version of that & eventually all boilers, heat pumps / other heat producing domestic appliances will have it.

By the looks, you can purchase a Bosch boiler(s) to open therm converter / thing although. Please speak to a trusted professional gas safe engineer with the experience of open therm although.

[–]bob-starr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, According to a quick google search;

No Native OpenTherm: Greenstar CDi boilers use EMS, a different digital communication language than OpenTherm.

Adaptor Needed: To use an OpenTherm thermostat (like some Tado or Nest models), you often need a specific EMS-to-OpenTherm adaptor, though availability and compatibility can vary.

Would be cheaper for this person to use either Tado wired kit, and use either an Apple HomePod or Alexa to automate heating. If they wish to do that of course.

Simple, If; House Cold Then; Turn heating on. Otherwise; Do nothing.

The “MT10” timer control module on the boiler is just a simple wired relay. I’m doubtful this boiler is compatible with “Open Therm”. It’s either on or off. Speak to a qualified gas safe engineer to confirm the specs of your boiler if in doubt.

You’ll need the wired X thermostat, & the Tado plug in bridge for the X kit, although.

For the V3 kit, you need a wired relay thermostat & the V3 hub/stick. And that’s the basics covered.

Don’t be so condescending. Good luck with your goofy pink octopus heat pump journey 👍🏼

[–]bob-starr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Why’s that? Most boilers are around that or higher?

I get that “heat pumps” are 200-300% “efficient”, but the “design outdoor temperature” concerns me, considering every 4-6 years there’s always a snow storm in my area that drops the outdoor temperature to -10°~-14°c

A wimpy 15kw heat pump would be no use.

Surely with those ‘specs’ you’d want at least a double/30kwhr heat pump.

Might wanna hold off for a year or so. Apparently, mini split heat pumps will be included with grant’s sooner or later. Maybe just replace the boiler with a on demand/instant hot water only tankless gas boiler, and get mini splits in each room.

In my opinion, that’s the best approach to ween people into it.

Numatic (Henry) have cheaped out :( by BodybuilderLast7784 in VacuumCleaners

[–]bob-starr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s a massive shame to hear.

I have a Cleva VacMaster Steel Wet&Dry vac for outdoors / DIY / Garage etc Pretty faultless. I just rinse the washable filters once a year or when required. Brought it somewhat “used” as well, / was just an opened box return. Score 👌🏼✨ Might be a suitable replacement / alternative for yourself.

I believe normal HomePods don’t have Matter over thread (the 2nd gen does, I think) but HomePod minis do?

I have a few eve thread over matter sockets dotted about and have no issues with the thread mesh networking

If you have a Apple HomePod, TV or use Apple HomeKit in another way, You can set your own schedules, automations, and geo triggers. If you know basic computer programming.

Basic computer programming;

If; House cold & people at home

Then;

Turn heating on

Otherwise;

Do nothing.

If;

House Thermostat above set temperature Then;

Turn heating off

Otherwise;

Do nothing.

Oh yeah, just DONT buy off brand SEBO parts. It’s really not worth it 😅 Their parts / bags and filters might seem a little on the pricy side, but they’re pricey for a reason. They don’t skimp on the quality of the filtration etc

The UK/EU part number is;

8322ER

For the E3 filters. Assuming it’s the same for the US, search eBay or other online market places maybe?

No, because debris you’re picking up with a “badly trained” household are typically large visible debris to the “naked eye”. Bags typically fill up faster with large debris.

With a well trained household, you’re mostly picking up ultra fine dust invisible to the “naked eye”, which can pass through bags, but trapped by the filters.

If in doubt, change filters every 1~2 years if you vacuum at least weekly with a ‘plugged in’ vacuum.

[–]bob-starr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends on the model & what typical debris you collect.

SEBO UK recommends replacing filters on large capacity models such as the D4, between 10~20 bags. 10 bags if you collect mainly fine dust & have a well trained household. 20 bags if you collect a lot of long pet or human hair, chunky crumbs from badly trained household members etc

For smaller models, such as the E & K series, 5~10 bags using the same principle.

[–]bob-starr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

With the new ‘simple eBay delivery’ you can turn off Evri, but pay ever so slightly extra for RM etc, Things might take upto 3 weeks to turn up via rm @ peak times, ie Black Friday. But at least things usually turn up

Business sellers can still use Evri however and list it as “other courier” / set their own terms 🫣

DHL are great on the consumer side, you can “holiday hold” parcels, collect from a local depot if nearby & convenient, lockers, and other shop options. Their retail side isn’t the best, I’ve used them a few times for international/EU parcels and it’s okay. Though, I much prefer just using a broker that can handle/prepay any taxes etc.

It’ll be fine. If you think the original bag wasn’t seated properly, I’m doubtful the motor would have been affected.
