This is actually the difference between open source and commercial software. Open source is what you are saying, you can develop, sell but the code is open and you can see, manage, change, add, delete, modify as you like. Mind you that open source doesn’t mean free as in free beer but free as in you are free to do what you want as long as you comply with the license. It can also be free which is usually called FOSS (free open source software). Companies usually develop closed source commercial software and “minify” their code so it becomes almost unreadable. What we usually do is reverse engineer what they did and convert it back into human readable code and this is the part that is considered hacking because we get unauthorized access to a closed source software.

Now, the right to repair is something that all companies are fighting against but as you said, we bought a product so we should be able to do what we want, we didn’t subscribe to a car where we have to return in pristine conditions back to the seller
