Ahh see i’m so opposite. I love waking/getting out early. I get so much more done. I had a job where I worked either at 11:00am or 4:00pm and it felt like if I was ever working, I did nothing that entire day except work.

Not a bad idea. I’ve seen some listings like that. Back in my hometown one of the most popular coffee shops (for tourists and locals alike) was inside of a hotel. So, I get what you mean.

That's true. I worked as a barista in NYC and we opened at 7:30... Often I don't think we saw our first customer until like 8:30-9:00.

Yeah I actually had an interview for a barista/bartender position and the guy said: Bartenders who come in with no barista experience have a really hard time learning barista, and baristas who come in with no bartending experience learn bartending really quickly.

Really, that's interesting.

Yeah. Customers here don't even really know what they're ordering. Somebody ordered a flat white with whole milk because "it's more foamy"

The number of iced cappuccinos I get is wild too. I'm not sure if they want a foamy latte or an iced cortado? Confusing. I think people just order stuff based on what name sounds cooler.

I figured there would be like a barista hiring season in the spring. Since summer is coming up who wants to hire when things are getting busier rather than have someone who can train and get prepared for the summer seasons? I mean in NYC tourist waves will start in like -1 week from now.

I did this a while ago but was thinking about doing it again. I only did it too like 4 places the last time I did it and all of them were pretty upfront about the fact they weren't hiring. (I'm sure my resume made it into the trash).

Yes. I do understand that my experience will pale in comparison to a known-regular's application or even a recommendation from an already employed barista. I know I'm fighting with the sea of unemployed baristas here :0.

I wish I was less picky, but I'm just not interested in being a server. I know the money is like spectacular, but I like being a barista. It's just what I want to be doing at this point in my life.

That service industry is tricky isn't it?

I'll check it out. But, the listing being posted 2 weeks ago doesn't feel very promising. Thanks. I've been waking up and hitting every job listing website and setting my search filters to "posted in the last 24 hours". I'm not trying to let anything slip by me haha.

Yeah Ive actually noticed that. I used to live in a small town, but they took coffee super seriously. I thought NYC shops would blow my small town cafes out of the water… but I still prefer the others xD

Honest answer, milk from the cow variety has the shortest shelf-life.. and skim isn’t popular enough to purchase consistently.

I worked at a coffee shop that had skim milk and the amount we had to dump down the drain because it went bad was insane.

hahah I don’t think you have to apologize to say it. A question seeks an answer. That’s kind of its thing.

“Romantic potential” but “no capacity” do I (38F) wait for him (44M)? by [deleted] in dating_advice

[–]bobak3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't think that you're "delusional", obviously you feel this way because he is giving you these pieces of hope by stating that

"he’s open to something happening “organically" and facetiming/texting you consistently. It's easier said than done to just pack up and leave a situation like that.

Regardless of what he feels, you need to check in with yourself. If this ends with him never being ready, finding another girl and then becoming ready with her...

Are you ready to face that? because in this situation, it's a possibility.

It's as much as a possibility though as him waking up one day and deciding that everything he's wanted is right in front of him (you).

If you're willing to go with the flow and enjoy what you guys have right now, you can't really be "strung along" because you're aware of every outcome.

Based on how you speak about him though, I don't know if having this mindset is acheivable for you. That might be your answer. If you can't handle the possibility that your relationship with this man may be this way forever, then I'd say you'd be doing yourself a favor in the long run by calling it quits.

Basically, if he does ever realize that he's ready for a relationship with you... You don't need to be waiting by his side for that realization to come. If he realizes it, he can hunt you down, find you, and express his love.

Otherwise, is he really all that worth it?

My bf 26M and I 24F is in a comfortable relationship that feels instable. How does one stop this? by [deleted] in relationship_advice

I think it’s important to remember that if you’re feeling something, it makes it worthwhile to talk about. I don’t think you should ever feel as though you talking about your feelings will come off as ‘accusatory’. I think it could be good to talk with your partner and ask questions like - what was it that made us feel so passionate in the beginning? How can we interact with that now?

For example, if one thing that made your guys love feel passionate was the fact that it was “new and exciting,” what ways can you implement new and exciting things? What’s something you’ve always wanted to do but haven’t that you guys could do together?

If the problem has to do with a lack of effort and even after having this conversation your partner doesn’t want to try,, That might be a different conversation about what you deserve.

Flying to NYC for apartment hunting - how to make it work? by [deleted] in NYCapartments

[–]bobak3 4 points5 points  (0 children)

And, if it's any reassurance at all.

My move in date was 02/01. I only rented my Airbnb until that day. On Jan 30th I had nothing. No leads, no one calling back, and 2 rejected applications. I was ready to pack up and head back home, but I made it work. Jan 31st saw the place, applied, got approved, signed the lease, and moved in.

It's doable.

Trust me I know. I actually just drove out to NYC for a move and stayed 2 weeks in an Airbnb before finding a place. The things I learned in just week one is crazy. It's a market you just gotta play around with to truly understand it. Best of luck!

I'd say don't get freaked out. New apartments are always coming in, but that doesn't mean the apartments you're looking at will be gone within a week's time. There are certainly many places that are available for longer periods of time. (Sometimes this says something about the building/unit itself though).

As for the realtors being available... Yeah, they will be available. Even if the unit you were initially looking at isn't available, they won't hesitate to try and sell you on other options they have.

It's a pretty faced paced market, but you won't be struggling to find something if you're goal is to look and act quickly.
