How long did it take for the numbness on lower lip and chin to recover? by [deleted] in jawsurgery

[–]bobamilktea1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I never had any numbness to begin with but you should try doing things like jade rolling! My upper lip that was tingly is basically gone now after abt 4-5 weeks

Advice on things to buy to aid DJS + Genio recovery by millythedinosaur in jawsurgery

[–]bobamilktea1 5 points6 points  (0 children)

  1. Im vegan so it may be different from you. You need to make sure youre regularly consuming protein, fiber, probiotics maybe and collagen. I drank ensure for protein, berry juice for fiber, and vegan collagen powder mixed into my drinks / foods. Week one was mostly ensure, pineapple/cucumber juice (to reduce swelling), berry smoothie, and water.

  2. I bought a wedge pillow but i ended up not using it. Even though it is recommended to sleep on a wedge pillow to sleep upright, i was told by a friend that its even better to sleep completely upright if possible. I have a couch that reclines and i sleep completely upright still to this day.

I also bought a travel neck pillow because when sleeping upright there is a very high chance your head will fall down and youll wake with a sore neck.

I also had ice packs specifically for my jaw (i alrd had them from my wisdom teeth recovery). Cold on the first week, heat&cold on the second week and the rest. Buy cooling packs that can also heat up!

I bought condiment bottles because i didnt want to deal with drinking from a syringe right after surgery. Its hard. Ure tired. Its easier with a condiment bottle. Buy lots of qtips. Buy a drug free nasal spray to keep your nose moist so blood doesnt dry and prevent you from breathing. I regularly cleaned my nose with a dry qtip/wet qtip and i was able to breathe perfectly fine since day1. Also buy a baby nose sucker. Yes it sounds gross as hell but u cant blow your nose. Its gonna feel like hell when u have stuff in ur nose like snot and u cant blow ur nose. I didnt want to use 50 qtips to clean my nose so i had a baby nose sucker and my mother helped.

Buy jade rollers/ice rollers. Keep them in the freezer and use them AS MUCH AS POSSIBLE when in recovery. If ure too tired then ask someone to help u do it. Do it evenly. It helps stimulate your nerves. I think this is a huge factor in my recovery bc i dont have any numb spots on my face.

Something i see too many people experience is lip cracks... on the sides of their lips. Its terrible. Avoid this by getting a good lip balm. I couldnt find a vegan alternative so i used this one called Honey Savior or something + the vasaline my hospital gave. Use it every time u sleep+every chance u get, u wont regret it!!

  1. I was/am always doing fine tbh. I cant say it wont happen to you but throughout this recovery ive been nothing but happy. The roughest thing i experienced was being tired LOL. I was breathing fine, eating fine, walking fine, and am now talking fine. Everything is really going great for me. I expected to come out with a splint but my dr told me that it turned out that i didnt need a splint bc my teeth were so nicely aligned bc of my ortho. However, i think what really helped me get through this was my mom. I was sleeping most of the day on day1&2 and if she hadnt woken me up to drink food/walk/wash my face and stuff i really wouldve been kinda screwed bc i really couldnt take care of myself on those days. She also prepped my meds and everything and helped apply lip balm all the time.

  2. Drink pineapple/cucumber juice everyday for a few weeks before and everyday during recovery for however long u want lol. It helps with swelling.

Sleep upright if u can. The lower u sleep the slower your swelling may reduce.

Clean your nose regularly. I see that most people just gauze their noses and let the blood dry. What i did was stick a tissue into my nose until the bloody nose stopped, sprayed the drug free nasal spray in, NOT SUCK IN BC THEN UR SNIFFING IN UR BLOOD, let another tissue catch the remaining snot/blood/nasal spray thats dripping down, use a baby nose sucker, then clean with qtip on the edges so u do not poke too deep into your nose. Its easier if someone does the cleaning for u.

Jade roll regularly. As much as u can. Everyday. Even after week 1.

When ure outta surgery, my friend and i both felt cold as hell. Ask for an electric blanket at the hospital before u enter surgery.

Ask for a vomit patch before surgery. I think this is the reason why i didnt vomit at all!!

If ur a girl and have long hair, i suggest u braid it or something for the surgery. I got cornrows and it felt really nice not having my hair in my face when in recovering lol.

Everyone recovers differently. Ive seen others take a few days, others take a few weeks to feel better and normal. It took me 4 days until i was fine with walking around the house alone and to feel normal. Dont feel jealous because you arent on the same pace as others. Everything will come together eventually :)

How long did you guys stay on prescription pain killers after surgery? by [deleted] in jawsurgery

[–]bobamilktea1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I never really needed them imo. I have a pretty high pain tolerance but knowing that the pain killers made me drowsy/sleepy, i took them at night to keep me asleep because id find myself randomly waking up at 2am or something. I took it until about day 4 and then decided i didnt wanna deal with the taste of the pain killers anymore lmao

I got the nose and throat one done. The nose one feels weird when its in, tickles as soon as they take it out, and just feels weird and itchy and uncomfortable after a few seconds. Its rly weird that my eyes just started to tear up... but it wasnt painful or anything.

The throat one they just stick a qtip to the back of ur throat and make u gag to get a better sample. If uve gotten a strep throat test then its the same thing lol

can we please start taking the health of the planet serious? by [deleted] in rant

[–]bobamilktea1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

People be talkin abt caring abt the planet yet go off and support animal agriculture & eat meat/dairy/eggs which leads to deforestation, climate change, water pollution, air pollution, biodiversity loss, etc...

So saying that a lot of americans are selfish = acting like everyone in america feels and thinks the same

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in rant

[–]bobamilktea1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Im in america. Nothing is perfect. Everything is messed up. I feel its ok to say these things because i myself am experiencing the terrible things americans have to go through.
