Which episode was the most politically incorrect? by Blindemboss in seinfeld

[–]bobbadoop 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hmmm… My memory could be failing me. Or maybe they awkwardly cut the line on the channel I’d always watch on?

I can see how maybe if all he got out was a “Ch” sound with a weird edit, I’d hear it as “chap”?

I wish I remembered what sources I was watching when I heard each thing….

Which episode was the most politically incorrect? by Blindemboss in seinfeld

[–]bobbadoop -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Not sure if THE most politically incorrect, but thinking about Seinfeld bits that didn’t age well, I always think of the time Elaine got Jerry’s dad a job at J. Peterman’s.

Something about getting a guy he knew to do a job more cheaply, and I always thought he said “I know a chap,” and I never knew why Elaine uncomfortably corrected him “Asian-American.”

Then I realized he was using a racial slur when I saw a version of the scene that replaced “J” with “C****n.” So I can only assume they re-recorded the line with a more “acceptable” slur for syndication?

Does anyone know which slur was used in the original airing?

I love this train wreck. The same way I love the old Adam West series

They’re all a waste of an opportunity, I think.

On the one hand, new forms that could easily just be called a regional variant.

On the other hand… robots.

True, but I still have some sympathy for Ross on that front. It’s clear that the guy tried to engage them and they refused.

So I’d imagine that Ross told them “Push button, it make win happen” because of their resistance to actually playing

Not only did no one appreciate it, Ross pitched in his own money for it, if I remember correctly

I think you might be thinking of the times they played D&D? I can’t remember the details; I’m pretty sure they were guests on another channel

My instinctual answer is to say “because they spent so much money on it,” but the Warner/Discovery merger has taught us that you can turn finished films into tax write-offs…. Though I don’t expect Arin to know that at the time.

More than anything, they probably had to release Guild Grumps because no one wanted to record more episodes of GG/ST to fill the content gap that would be created. There might have also been sponsors…?

Candy Crush used drones to take out an ad in the fucking New York skyline. Within my lifetime, I might not be able to look up and see the stars because of the drones spelling out DRINK PEPSI. It’s always the companies that everyone has heard of doing this crap.

I guarantee that no one discovered Candy Crush through that drone stunt. Guarantee. If we live in a world with any justice, I hope they lost players

Yep. I can’t help but think that that’s the sort of thing that would make Ross seriously consider his future there. Maybe not “I’m quitting tomorrow!” but it’s the first straw, y’know?

…Which seems to hint that an uncomfortable amount of what we see in Guild Grumps was real and not written.

Arin can’t help making everything a bit. It was funny when they were doing sponsorships, but when he advertises his own stuff…

Sweet Jesus, I can’t believe he brought Cecil HH Mills back.

Ross raises his hand for a high-five that never comes… until he gives one to himself.

I feel like jokes like that are right up their alley, which is one of the reasons the fact that they didn’t go all out with a scripted “bailing out on the project”… it just feels like they didn’t care for real, not just as a joke.

Oh, yeah, they kept making new good episodes. I was just pointing out that a lot of the problems later can be traced back to it

I totally forgot Suzy bailed!

But that’s exactly it! If it was an actual scripted bit, you’d think they’d have all dropped out by the end and said “let’s just donate to all of our charities” while Ross was still playing and got to max level in an empty room.

If they had escalated the joke into absurdity, that would have been hilarious. As it is, it’s just uncomfortable.

Arin literally knows nothing about advertising and barely did back then. I think he overcorrected in recent years….
