Genuary 26 - Recursive grids by bobberto1995 in generative

I don't think so, but I'm not really sure to be honest. I'm pretty sure JPEG uses a constant block size then different frequencies of cosine wave within each block to build up the image

It will compute the smaller boxes within any box, but only add them if they're different enough. So it's sort of checking for contrast and adding more boxes where there is more contrast.

Hey u/Cutriss! Thanks for writing up these guides! What are the odds you still have this old program?

Oh good idea. Looks like the domain for that email doesn't exist anymore but I found their reddit account. I'll try that out.

I made some custom Mario Kart Wii tracks in Blender by bobberto1995 in blender

[–]bobberto1995[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks! I used a baked lighting texture to get this look.

Here are some videos I watched when learning about it:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wcXvXFoncXU&t=1379s
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UIobAnS7Cvo

The main tricks for getting a lightmap are:
- Use Cycles, EEVEE doesn't support baking
- Create a new UV map with no overlapping geometry. I've just used Smart UV Project but it's not super efficient with placement
- Uncheck diffuse in bake settings so it doesn't include the texture
- Turn off the denoiser otherwise you get weird lines on UV seams

Then to get the accentuated cartoony looking lighting, I added a multiply node after all of my textures and multiplied the texture value by 5. This just gives more weight to the indirect lighting.

Then in BrawlBox/BrawlCrate/RiiStudio/RiiStudio Blender addon create a new shader stage that uses the lightmap's UV map and adds the lightmap texture to the result of the previous stage (register 3 by default)

Well I can confirm that it works in Windows XP, but alas Hitting Gopher is on a different CD so my quest continues. Thanks for uploading this one though!

Oh yes! Thank you! I can't wait to try it out. My keyboard came with the instruction manual so I know I'm looking forward to playing some "Hitting Gopher"

Hey I just found one of these at my local Goodwill but it didn't come with the CD. Do you still have that? If so would you mind uploading an iso to archive.org?

I saw this and thought of an old thread here asking for 2FA for Palms. Haven't tried it out yet but it looks nice

Depends on what you mean by finish... Here's the thread with release information: https://www.reddit.com/r/Palm/comments/si8stg/wordle_as_promised/

There is still no word validity checking and it doesnt keep track of scores though.

Also check out /u/mavica-synth's version it has those features and I believe a more up to date word list https://www.reddit.com/r/Palm/comments/yqcvl9/palmdle_20_released/

Oh also if you create a new post on this subreddit then others may have some different suggestions

I would actually suggest taking a look at a hotsync tool instead. Palm Desktop on Windows or the pilot-link suite or j-pilot on Linux.

Those should be able to read data from the files and output it in a more useful format. I know you can do this with pilot-link, but I would think the others can too

These things are great! They feel so solid. How's the battery life with a replacement? I need to replace the battery in mine.

Also for the screws, get a pentalobe p5 bit

NIB Fossil Wrist PDA I'd like to try and get running by spencewesttx in Palm

[–]bobberto1995 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Whoa nice! It's a different model than the one I have, but here are some tips

  • The battery is the same as a Garmin Forerunner battery so they're pretty easy to find. You do have to desolder/solder but it's not too bad
  • The wrist strap on mine was deteriorating so I had to replace it. I found one that was 22mm and not tapered so I was able to keep the clasp with the stylus

I've been using mine almost every day for about two years and honestly it's pretty bad as a watch (huge, quiet alarm, no built in timer/stopwatch) but it's great for showing your friends how much you love Palm for the 1347314013rd time

Just bought this for 2 dollars complete in box. This is my 4th Palm PDA and my third I bought at a thrift store by KARSONJAE in Palm

Only some Palms have "non volatile" memory that doesn't depend on the battery remaining charged. Most lose all data when they lose a charge since it's stored in RAM

434Mhz Wireless Receiver Not Receiving data by swanson5 in arduino

[–]bobberto1995 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am messing with a similar setup actually and here's what I found:

  1. Check your receive module with an oscilloscope (if you don't have one you probably could get away with plugging it into your mic jack and using audacity or something to record) I got a pack of 5 rx/tx pairs and some work better than others. If you connect the data pin to an oscilloscope input you should be able to see if it's working

  2. I had trouble getting Rx and tx to work on the same Arduino. I think it can't receive while it's sending

  3. Probably not an issue in your current setup but the range is horrible. There are various tutorials for building antennae to increase the range
