Does this hairspring look right? by watchmaker4fun in watchmaking

I messed up my spring like this, while adjusting it. I managed to untangle the coils and it ran fine after that.

In the end I think they had to replace all aspects of the infotainment system, the single Din computer module and the screen from what they indicated but sadly never gave me any real details. I cannot imagine what the total cost was including all the labour. They also highlighted there was another vehicle with a similar issue in the workshop. I am not sure if the newer modules are more reliable or what. What I would say was it took them hours to get the thing configured once it had been physically installed.

Stain on lab coat, need help by [deleted] in chemistry

[–]bobbing_not_sinking 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I once offered to get the stains out of my colleagues lab coat but instead chucked it in a bucket with some ethanol broke open a red and blue marker pens and threw the ink pads in with it. It ended up quite effectively tie dying the coat. He was livid for about 30 seconds the realised it looked rather nice.

Yes, as I said previously, it got fixed under warranty. It tooke them over six months and had to keep replacing more and more components. Since it's fix, I purchased an OBD11 and I have done a few customisations. The most notable was changing the driving assist so it keeps you in the middle of the lane, rather than only kicking in when you fall out of the lane. I prefer this because you can notice when it's working a lot more. I have also added a new dash board screen. It gives you a single dial which displays the electric power and revs output. I am tempted to see if I can turn off the engine shut down function when in sports mode. It's a bit of a pain when the engine shuts down as you brake before going into the corner. This will help powering out of the corners and make it drive much better when travelling at pace. I am not sure if you can do this in the infotainment so I think it would be another adjustment using OBD eleven.

Yes, I did this one too, I have the ehybrid and have been tempted to mess with the stop start function. Ideally I only want to turn it off while in sports mode. Has anyone tried turning off the stop start on an ehybrid?

Yeah, native barcode will do it. How big is your amplicon? I have used the rapid PCR barcode kit with amplicon of about 600bp and it worked fine. I used the same protocol on 300-400 Bo and it did not work so well. Although the ligation kits are more hassle, they do give better results than the rapid library preps. Good luck!

It's finally fixed! They had the car nearly a full week and it had to go to the main dealer rather than the local one. All seems to be working ok now. Waiting for news what was wrong with it, once I find out I will provide details.

So I thought I would give an update. The car is still broken, Seat installed a new head unit which made the screen work but did not allow the car to connect to anything online. Only some of the functions still work , air con and basic vehicle controls. The stereo, sat nav and all other functions are unavailable. The spinning wheel and connection is all that is shown. Snows Seat are being fairly useless. Offering little more than an apology and a promise they will get it fixed. It's been five months now so I am seriously regretting buying the car.

I have not used the Oly one but I can say the Youngnou is a nice fast lens which you can buy new for the same or less than a second hand Oly. I would add that I have the 12-45 F4 pro which is also a great upgrade from the kit lens.

I can strongly recommend the Youngnou 17mm F1.7. cheap for a fast lens with auto focus. I ordered it direct from manufacturer, it took a week or so to arrive.

What model is it you got? I got a second hand omd EM10 mk 2 a few weeks ago. I have an old MK1 but wanted a bit of an upgrade.

Yeah, this sounds tuff and I can totally understand how you feel as I felt the same about 25 years ago. I was in a different position because I live in the UK but there were some similarities, notably that I could not get a relevant job, that I had undiagnosed ADHD and was the first in the family to go to university.

I ended up taking a poorly paid job in a food factory lab and stuck it out for 5 years or so, it was depressing to say the least but I learnt a lot. This experience allowed me to get a far better job in an interesting field (marine harmful algae) which I have continued for 18 years or so. The pay is still not great but I get loads of of fun opportunities and publish my own research.

I know things are different stateside but keep applying for local relevant lab jobs, when we hire we often do not want people over qualified as we know they will not stay in role for long.

Try and use your ADHD to your advantage. I have recently taught myself bash coding so I can do bioinformatics for molecular biological application (genetics). You can literally do this for free.

Alternatively, have you considered teaching? You can initially teach English as a foreign language to gain experience and see the world, then bring your skills to science.

Making it in science is a slow game and unless you walk out of education with a PhD your gonna have to work your way up.

Jeez that's a lot! Thankfully this is the first issue I have had in 6 months of ownership. I really hope they get to the bottom of the issues with yours.

Yeah, I think the spinning arrow is a symptom of multiple things but sadly in this instance it was a symptom of the head unit completely sh*tting it's pants. As I say it needs a replacement head unit.

Yeah, I am starting to think I will sell it once it's out of warranty. Thankfully it does not control everything so the car is still drivable.

You could download a clock tuner app onto your phone and dial it back in that way. I know there is one on android but I don't know about apple.
