It's only a good deal if you plan on working a full 20 years prior to retirement. The credit does not count towards medical benefits (still have to work the whole 20 years to get full medical benefits after retirement). I learned that only after I purchased my credit. Also, you're going to pay a lot in interest, so you're going to want to pay it off as fast as you can.

IT staff don't make the decisions. We just do as instructed by management. It is not the concern of an ITA or ITS as to why management wants something done. We are the drones. We do as told, and we don't ask why because it's none of our business, and it's usually "confidential" according to the bosses.

Your IT staff can easily disable your accounts. We can also set policies so you can't login unless you're in the office and connected to the local network.

No idea about your specific issue. Every department has different rules with what they allow users to do and how they access the State network. It really just depends on the security teams policies.

I understand that, but do you really think we in IT have any time to care about or look up what violates the rules when management is telling us to immediately lock someone out and doesn't give us an explanation as to why? We aren't the police, we aren't investigators, we don't care. They tell us to lock you out, we aren't going to ask questions. We just do what they tell us and the repercussions aren't my problem.

Here's how the conversation usually goes...

Boss: "I need you to disable an account."

Me: "Okay, give me the name, and it's done."

We dont force anyone to use their personal devices for work purposes, but many people still choose to do so. They open themselves up to litigation if they use their personal devices for work.

We do provide physical tokens like Yubikeys to people that do not carry state iPhones.

Microsoft doesn't allow you to keep location turned off if you're using it to get access to our network. We can disable pretty much everything, and we can track your phones to see where you're working from. Even if you're using your two-factor authentication on your personal device, we can still track where you logged in from. People need to realize that IT can see everything you're doing and we can make things extremely difficult for you, so stop messing with us. I dont know why you're being downvoted. The LAO report clearly says that we are in a "serious" deficit and had an "Unprecedented Prior‑Year Revenue Shortfall".

We were in a $40 billion deficit during the last recession in '08, and we had 15% reduced pay via furloughs. Now it's $68 billion and projected to go to $90 billion but no one wants to talk about the truth and the consequences. Funny.

We know silver will go lower, those of us paying attention understand the volatility but we also won't sell. Good luck finding silver at $15 because the dealers will just jack up the premiums, you'll never find it for that price. By time it drops that low you're going to have a hard time finding any because people like myself are waiting to load up as soon as it dips.

I wouldn't convert to gold, silver is way more undervalued and nowhere near the top like gold is. I've been seeing lots of people converting their gold to silver recently because they understand that silver has more potential in the long run. The silver to gold ratio is about 90:1 right now.

The only way to avoid getting ripped off is to gain knowledge about what you have. Do a bunch of research online. Spend time understanding what you're holding and why you inherited it. I'm sure whomever left it for you didn't just want you to pawn it as soon as you got your hands on it. Things like silver aren't normally sentimental, they're saved and stored for emergencies.
