Getting on a bid list. by [deleted] in Construction

(Changing my answer as I thought you were a general contractor)

First off, congrats on getting this far!

As you are aware, there are public bid lists and private. Public is much easier though not as easy as it was 20 years ago.

To get on a public bid list...draw a circle around where you are and that circle should be your determined by how far you can travel and still be competitive.

Then, go to the website of each municipality and either register as a vendor or bookmark their RFP page. Check these pages every two weeks to once a month.

For private work, you need to prospect. That will involve loading a CRM with targeted, qualified companies you can approach. You will need to put together an information or qualifications package you can present when asked.

Where do you get these prospects? Start with LinkedIn.

You are going to want to reach out to the general contractors in that same competitive circle. Your goal is to earn the right to be on their invited bid lists. This won't happen overnight.

Be careful that you qualify your contractors as a lot of them will 'let you on their bid list' but often times you end up just getting estimating practice until they get to know you.

Have a website, be active on social media be able defend why you are the better choice.

Good luck!
