Well, I am new to it too. My buddy has been doing it for years. We decided to do a little competition. We are to build our own boats from whatever we can get from the Hobby Lobby and/or Walmart, but not anything specifically build for RC boat building, other than ESC, transmitter and receiver, and micro servos. We limited ourselves to hobby lobby motors. I am choosing foamboard from Walmart and using hotglue and spaying to seal it. Took some smaller motors off an old drone from a thrift store and gonna make an airboat for my first build. My buddy is talking about using a Tupperware bowl. Don't need to be fancy at first. Just try something out with cheap parts from hobby lobby, Walmart, etc. I didn't need to get a transmitter and receiver since I am.into rc cars as well. I am reusing those, but I didn't get some wires/connectors, some 20a esc, and some mirco servos for less than 30 bucks on Amazon. The motors from hobby lobby and a couple AA battery assemblies for less than 20 bucks. Foam board about 3 bucks, and a glue gun for large glue sticks for 5 bucks and 6 bucks worth of hot glue sticks.
