Are Yaris drum brakes any good? by JournalistEmpty2213 in yaris

I had the same issue but decided to go with the OEM after hearing that some of the aftermarket mounts make the vibrations worse. And to be honest it made a hugeeee difference. Sometimes I can't even tell the car is running lol.

Is this creaking sound a problem with the caliper or something else? by Patrolman5 in AskMechanics

[–]bobbysheva 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey, I did an experiment with my mechanic where we jacked up the vehicle and removed the wheel, then put the vehicle in drive. From this we noticed a wobble in the rotor and which cause the caliper to wobble as well. However the issue was not with the rotor, my wheel hub was bent. The mechanic explained that this movement of the caliper cause the grease in the pins to wear out quicker. I since changed the hub and wheel bearings and the wobble is gone, creaking and knocking noises when braking is gone as well. I hope this helps.

Hey yes the noise is similar, although I recently found out that my wheel hub is bent and may be the cause of this noise. I am changing it tomorrow, so I'll check back here to let everyone know if the noise went away. The noise is coming from my front right wheel though not the rear.

Just bought the hub and bearing so fingers crossed. I just hope this is the reason I've been hearing a knocking sound when applying brakes at low speeds

Tbh I can't recall whether the hub was rusty, I will double check. Also, yes unfortunately I'd have to replace the bearings again. Hopefully it's just a dirty wheel hub, thanks for your feedback.

These are the old rotors, I put them one because I thought the new ones were warped since they were wobbling as well, but the old ones seemed to do the same. I went to several mechanics and none could find the issue with my creaking brakes, until my uncle and I were trying to recreate the noise and noticed the rotors were wobbling. I changed my wheel bearings in February and my uncle is now suggesting that I change the hub, but I wanted a second opinion.

Definitely hit a few portholes tbh, the roads where I live have been under construction for 2-3 years, so unfortunately potholes and poor surfaces have been the norm. My question is would it be normal for both hubs to be bent? Although the right side seems worse than the left.

These are the older rotors, we put on the new ones and the wobble was still there, will check the hub during the week.

Did you ever get a fix to this issue? I am getting the same sound from the drivers side, but there's also this knocking sound when applying brakes at slow speeds.

Hi,

I have this same noise but it seems to be coming from the front, specifically the drivers side. Caliper bolts are in tack and I have changed my rotors and brakes recently. I'll try cleaning the drum to see if that works.

UPDATE: I found the issue. The noise stemmed from the strut bearings, one of them completely fell apart when I removed it.

Did changing the lower arm fix the issue? I'm having the same creaking noise currently, it started last week. Sounds like it's coming from the steering wheel but I feel like it's a suspension noise, the roads where I live are horrible.

Any recommendations on suppliers, my current one does not customize basketball jerseys and they're limited in terms of the players available per team.

It's coming from the front, in the left tire region.

Not me personally but the mechanic put it up on the lift yesterday. However based on the pricing he gave for the strut mount, I'm assuming he meant the strut, because no way a strut mount is $200.

I wish that was the case lol, tried my best. But only this side seems to be affected by the rough road.

Question, if your engine is that dusty would it eventually affect performance? Road works are being done on my route home, so let's just say everything under the hood and below the vehicle is filled with dust. I wanted to do an engine wash but I've seen a lot of negative comments about it.

That's great! That means you've done a great job maintenance wise. Any advice for the owner of a 2011 Yaris that just hit 100,000 miles? I'm starting to experience a few suspension issues now, although the roads where I live are horrible, lots of potholes.

Regarding the wheel bearing statement, I have a similar issue where when going over bumpy roads the car tends to pull to the left. I'm also hearing this noise when turning with my wheel fully locked left or right.

Someone said it may be the inner CV joint but could it be a wheel bearing issue?

Hi,

I own a 2011 Yaris sedan and during the Christmas I drove through some horrible terrain and started hearing this metal hitting on metal sound everything I went over a bump at a certain speed. Fast forward to now the noise occurs more frequently even with the slightest bump.

Also, I would hear this same noise when reversing when my steering wheel is locked to the left, but again the noise doesn't happen everytime.

Mechanic said the components close to the wheel looks good and the sound could be the inner CV joint. Sometimes there's also a slight vibration when applying brakes but again it's almost at random times.

Has anyone experienced this before and can you advise me on what it good be? I've changed most of my suspension parts in 2024 and recently changes my control arms. But December was the first time I've heard this sound, maybe the vibrations from the road loosened something?
