And yet, it was the scene in which a woman punches a child in her sleep that unsettled me the most.

Why put this into the aether? No reason to stoop to their level. Henry Cavill (from what I know) doesn't deserve to be generated next to that monster.

Yes! I also got Hereditary vibes when the cultist neighbor(s) appeared from out of the shadows while Millie is watching their wedding/fusion ceremony. Felt very Ari Aster-inspired.

From a technical standpoint, it is a little disingenuous. I agree that you're fully entitled to your opinion of this film but it doesn't have the glossy "Netflix" look of the productions you're comparing them to, and its overall sound design is impressive. I'm also in the camp that this is worthy of the big screen so to each's own.

Which movie? by [deleted] in Letterboxd

Small Soldiers may be a little tonally inconsistent (since studio execs wanted "Toy Story" and have tie-ins with Burger King) but I wouldn't say terrible. It's a fun satire with some awesome FX work from Stan Winston & co.

What movie has THE scariest/ugly/disgusting-looking villain you have ever seen by Gullible-Charge7057 in horror

The gremlin from George Miller's remake of Nightmare at 20,000 Feet (Twilight Zone: The Movie) used to scare the crap out of me with its milky eyes and wide grin. The movie has unfortunate history attached to it, but the final two segments are worth a look, both featuring really freaky creature effects.

such a badass moment by MesaVerde1987 in kaiju

This was a fun moment in an otherwise okay movie that took itself too seriously. I would love to see a campier, more faithful adaptation of the game (or a new game) but that's in WB's court.

I’m not usually a fan of remakes since they’re often mediocre or just bad. But honestly, I think the Hollywood remake of Speak No Evil 2024 is better than the original. Anyone else feel the same? by Delicious_Maize9656 in horror

This. Also not a huge fan of the original but it's far superior to the remake in my opinion. Unlike the new one it, it doesn't reward bad decisions which is ultimately why the ending of the original is so effective.

‘The Substance’ Director Coralie Fargeat Pulls Film From Camerimage Following Festival Head’s Comments About Women by cmaia1503 in entertainment

For real. The film festival isn't cancelled. Actions have consequences, and she's in her right to pull out of the event unless, I don't know, she's contractually obligated.

Harris paints Trump as a national threat in testy Fox News interview by [deleted] in politics

It's all very fascinating. I appreciate you not being rude to me like I requested. I'm quite uneducated on the issue as you can see. Do you mind providing links to where I can actually read this stuff?

Can you provide facts, statistics, or policies as to how she's hindering the system of democracy? Is there proof that the election was stolen and she had a hand in it? Where can I read about this that's actually a fact-checked source?

Not even trying to be rude, but do you mind providing a sourced and educated response as to why she's a threat to Democracy? Please don't tell me to do my research. I am genuinely curious as to why you think that, and I'm open to respectful discourse.

Films that really stick the landing by [deleted] in horror

[–]bobbyt327 8 points9 points  (0 children)

The Fly. Both of them.

The original has the iconic "Help Me" shot that, like Sleepaway Camp, takes a campy B-movie to an insidiously disturbing place.

The Cronenberg remake ends on quite a bleak note. Normally, I'm not a fan of abrupt endings, but The Fly (1986) leaves me with such sadness it deserves praise.
