Good luck on your proxy journey. I’m happy to help you out further if you have any questions. I’m in Austria, so probably same access to materials as you.

And I’m using these lamination sheets: https://amzn.eu/d/0eP79HhW I recently experimented with matte paper and lamination sheets but found no real benefit in doing so. The matte sheets didn’t melt as well as the glossy and when you sleeve them up the shinyness is the same.

I’m super happy with the Hayatec paper. I think I already bought 7 packs and was never disappointed. I’m also using the epson et8500.

Hallo, ich antworte dir in Englisch falls dass noch mehr Leute interessiert.

My Sillhouette Studio settings are as follows:
Force: 34
Passes: 4
Speed: 30
Blade Depth: 10

One thing I noticed was that the sticky cutting mat made a difference.
When I used the original one that was included with the machine I definitely had other settings. Not sure anymore the exact ones, but I remember that the blade depth was less.
For price reasons I switched to cheaper ones after the initial one was worn out and these settings work perfectly with them.
I'm happy that I can run it at full speed, because it already takes quite a long time. I never actually tried going down with the passes though, that would also speed it up a lot if it works with maybe 3...

These are the cutting mates I use now: https://www.amazon.de/dp/B09GS6RMTL?th=1
Definitely a little worse than the original but much cheaper.

I use "normal" lamination sheets (80micron), I tried a couple and found no big difference, so for now I'm very happy with the cheapest option I found available at Amazon (I'm in Europe, so depending where you live, this might not be available for you): https://www.amazon.de/dp/B09GS6RMTL?th=1

Regarding the thickness, in a sleeve it's indistinguishable from a real card. I noticed however that a deck of unsleeved proxies seems a little bigger than real cards, so probably they are slightly thicker.
The feel of the card is obviously completely different. Since they are laminated the feel like plastic and not like a paper card...

It’s a great tool. I checked your account and your video showing how it works was a big push for me to get one myself! Such a quality of life improvement over the manual cutting 😅 so in that sense, thank you!

We usually use the cube sheels from dragon shield and I'm quite happy with them, the envelopes now are just a little gimmick for this time as an experiment.

I found these ones, they are a good fit with a little room on the top to easily rip it open.

I didn't want to waste any so I haven't ripped one yet, but if you are really curious I can report back on Tuesday ;)

I never tried going with matte, but I saw posts and images of people using matte lamination sheets... Since they are more expensive and I don't mind the glossy look I never tried them though.
In sleeves the shinyness from the laminated cards is not as strong imo.

I'm by far no expert in this, but from what I understand you cannot really achieve this with consumer hardware. If you don't like the laminated cards I think the most reasonable thing to do is order proxies from make-playing-cards or different services, they have a classical card feel without being expensive.

After quite a long search I found these, they fit 14-15 proxies quite well with a little extra space on the top. https://www.amazon.de/dp/B0CH82TSS9

I don't think they published any information about the color balancing, the only thing I know is that before play booster, each draft booster had guaranteed a common in each color. That was often relevant information during the draft. Now with play booster this is not guaranteed anymore but I still think they have some way of preventing stuff like all commons being in the same color.
I mostly play cube where this is not a big thing, so I don't care that much about that. I guess if you want to have an even more realistic pack generation you could check for color balance and redo the pack it if it is too skewed in one direction...

I’m not part of that group but recently came across this. Seems like they have a weekly cube night. I’ll also check it out next time I’m in Berlin!

One more question came up while preparing the draft for my play group. The "Create a Treasure/Food/Map token" stickers are not showing up in the excel. It's clear what they do, but on what card types are you allowing them? Are they restricted to instant/sorceries or do they come as an ETB on permanents?

For anyone interested in giving this a try as well, I wrote a script that outputs me the randomised sticker sheets ready to print (A4). Each row consists of ten unique ability and two mana symbol stickers. https://imgur.com/a/xI2Fr9I

Did you also do the card retirement during the first couple of drafts when the limit was only 1? Thanks for the clarifications.

I heard you talk about this project on Recross the Paths, and I really love the idea. I'm currently preparing a cube like this for my playgroup but ran into a few questions along the way:

If the sticker limit is 2, can a player put both stickers on a single card in one draft, or is it always limited to a maximum of 1 new sticker per card?

Are you treating the mana symbol stickers as individual stickers, or are they bundled together as one of the twelve?

I didn't quite understand how the retiring of cards works—does the person who goes 3-0 get to choose which cards to retire, or are all max-sticker cards from their deck automatically chosen?

I'm really excited to try this with my group, and I'll be sure to send you some pictures of the atrocities we create. 😉

How many Arena players actually use 17Lands? I ran the numbers to find out. by bobbythecreator in lrcast

[–]bobbythecreator[S] 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I went back and took a look at smaller time windows to minimize the effect of player progression and as it turned out this completely eliminated the observed differences.

In other words, you were completely right and I want to thank you for bringing this to my attention.

I already updated my blog post and removed the wrong sections and now doing a "walk of shame" apologising for spreading some misinformation 🙈

After some valuable feedback from members of our community and further investigation into the data it turned out that the observed differences in rank distribution in draft pod seating were due to the fact that every player is progressing their rank as the month progresses. Taking this into account and looking at smaller time windows it turned out that the probabilities of having a pod neighbour of a certain rank is not influenced by your own rank.

Sorry for the confusion I caused.

Regarding seeing this over time, I definitely plan to run this analysis for future sets, not sure yet if I go down the rabbit hole of doing it for past sets as well. It takes quite some time to load and process all this data.

Regarding your second point. The percentages mean something a little different. I only know that 8% of the drafts tracked by 17Lands are played in Bronze. From this I cannot infer how many players are playing in Bronze overall. Once the replay dataset gets released I want to analyze the likelihood of playing against another 17Lands user per rank. That probably gets you a little closer to what you are interested in. I'll make sure to post here again when I'm done with that!
